GAWildKat Posted November 5, 2013 Author #2 Posted November 5, 2013 I should state I guess that this is in March. I'm planning this around Mike's college break.
djh3 Posted November 6, 2013 #3 Posted November 6, 2013 Hard for me to say as of now. I dont have a work schedule for next year. Then there would be the question, "do I ride up to meet up? Or do I load the pick up with the toll box to help out? Guess it would depend on what and who needed to do what.
GAWildKat Posted November 6, 2013 Author #4 Posted November 6, 2013 Well Mike's Venture needs the wiring harness run and atm he's feeling overwhelmed with attempting it alone. he needs 1st gen parts too, but we want the electrical sorted soon.

Dragonslayer Posted November 6, 2013 #6 Posted November 6, 2013 Well Mike's Venture needs the wiring harness run and atm he's feeling overwhelmed with attempting it alone. he needs 1st gen parts too, but we want the electrical sorted soon. What's wrong with the electrical harness. I can probably help you with that. I spent more time in that harness than anyone else alive. My experience is to look at the electrical quick connect plugs 1st. 99% of the problems I every had on that bike was due to poor connections at the quick connect plugs.
GAWildKat Posted November 6, 2013 Author #7 Posted November 6, 2013 There's no brake lights, horn, turn signals, tach, and a couple of other things in the dash. With Mike's school schedule there's just not enough time to tackle it alone. It's a restoration project at this point. Going take the wiring harness we found in the parts bin and start new, Also need a new clutch assembly, cruise control, cb/intercom controls on the handlebar needs replacing. There's probably more I'm not thinking of now, I have a lot on my mind today.

There's probably more I'm not thinking of now, I have a lot on my mind today. Whoa..... hold up there Nelly..... Not necessarily... before you start replacing the wiring harness there may be a much easier fix. For instance... The emergengy flasher switch on the inside edge of the right dash board is actually a junction for the signal circuits meaning that the brake lights and turn signals go through that switch even though it does not control those functions. It could just be that that switch is bad, in which case you just unplug the old switch and plug in a new switch. The point being, there is a comprehensive wiring schematic in the manual I gave you as well as a downloadable one in the tech section. Get someone that can read and enterpret electrical schematics if Micheal needs help with that before you condemn the entire wiring system. GeorgeS, is the one member that worked with me from the very beginning on the electrical system on that bike. He is the reason (or one of them), I am still on this forum and riding a Yamaha. He is a retired airline mechanic and detailed oriented electrical guru. He spent months of his time talking me through trouble shooting and repairing the electrical system when I first got the bike and immediatly had an electrical issue which also turned out to be a simple fix once we determined what the problem was. Chances are by trouble shooting by the wiring schematic you will probably find out the problem needs a minor fix. Changing the clutch basket is also an easy task and can be done in a few minutes. If that is what the problem is, check fluids first, the master and slave. Call me I'll discuss. I'll help as much as I can considering our geographical differences and time constraints. Remember, the bike is 26 years old and there will be some tinkering envolved. It is possible to get an advanced degree in Venture Mechanics from Venturerider.org University. Use the 1st Gen Tech Talk forum, ask basic questions and pleanty will give you the correct answers and tell you where to look. Trust me, I've done it. By the way I ran across the original owners manual for that bike. Do you want it?
Yammer Dan Posted November 6, 2013 #9 Posted November 6, 2013 Dirty and bent connections can really mess with ya. Learning to use Multi-meter would be a great plus for me. I just go at it the redneck way and hope for the best.
GAWildKat Posted March 20, 2014 Author #10 Posted March 20, 2014 Reminder that our maintenance day is next weekend, hope to see y'all here!
GAWildKat Posted March 26, 2014 Author #11 Posted March 26, 2014 To update everyone on weather who plan to travel here...local wearherman is calling for rain fri and scattered tstorms Sat. Obviously Mike's working on the bike either way in the garage if needed. But we don't want anyone to travel in unsafe weather conditions. We can always hold another one at a later date. Say late May or June after graduation. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk
Flyinfool Posted March 26, 2014 #12 Posted March 26, 2014 Today is only Wednesday... If the weatherman is predicting rain for Saturday, you should have a nice day for your MD. I went several whole summers with a better prediction rate than the weatherman. I looked at the Wednesday forecast for Saturday and predicted the opposite. I was right more often than they were.
GAWildKat Posted March 26, 2014 Author #13 Posted March 26, 2014 Our local guy is usually spot on for predictions. He's a local guy that went off to college and came back. Yesterday it was supposed to partly cloudy and no rain past thurs. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk
GAWildKat Posted March 28, 2014 Author #14 Posted March 28, 2014 I still dunno who all is coming tomorrow. I know weather is affecting turn out. Howevermy neighbor just walked over to inform me his house was broken into today while I was home cleaning. I live in a good neighborhood but be safe. Be mindful of possessions if you plan to sleep over. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk
Yammer Dan Posted March 29, 2014 #15 Posted March 29, 2014 Wish I could have made this one. Pouring rain down right now. Leg don't care for cooler rides. Hope Mike can find electrical problem. I want to see that bike right.
djh3 Posted March 29, 2014 #16 Posted March 29, 2014 Hope it goes well for you all. Weather is soooo sketchy. Not looking good here in Fla. I have been off from work for medical since Feb 21.
