Venturous Randy Posted November 4, 2013 #1 Posted November 4, 2013 I just won a MKII headlight, tail light and a front signal light for $.99 cents each. The shipping on the headlight was $15 and $10 each on the other two for $35 total. I sent the guy a note and asked him if he would combine shipping and send me a new invoice. He said he did not know how to combine shipping on the invoice. When I pull up any one of the three items to pay, they are added together for $2.98 plus $35 for shipping. It appears ebay has changed their page and I don't know if it can be modified. Any suggestions? RandyA
bongobobny Posted November 4, 2013 #2 Posted November 4, 2013 From experience, some sellers will combine, some won't. Check both listings and see if he stated he would combine...

He did not say he would not, just that he did not know how. Given that comment, I assume he would at least consider it. RandyA
Guest tx2sturgis Posted November 4, 2013 #4 Posted November 4, 2013 (edited) Sounds like he wants to make a little money on shipping. At the price you paid..seriously....I wouldnt complain too much. Couldnt hurt to ask him to toss in a $5 or $10 book of stamps (a refund of sorts)...but I doubt he will. Edited November 4, 2013 by tx2sturgis
brd7666 Posted November 4, 2013 #5 Posted November 4, 2013 It sounds to me like he wants to make his money on the shipping. Combining the shipping costs is very easy. I've done it a few times myself.
cowpuc Posted November 4, 2013 #6 Posted November 4, 2013 Randy He can charge whatever the two of you agree on for shipping.. If your paying thru paypal all he has to do is adjust his billing thru them.. Like already mentioned, lots of sellers make their money on shipping and HANDLING, very common!! If you look at his feedback numbers and they are high I can almost guarantee he has traveled this road before... Puc
brd7666 Posted November 4, 2013 #7 Posted November 4, 2013 What you should do in the future is. If you think you will bid on multiple auctions from the same seller, ask the seller before you bid if he will combine shipping if you win more than one of his auctions. Some sellers will post in their auctions that they will combine shipping. In your case, the seller does not have to combine the shipping. Good luck.
Venturous Randy Posted November 4, 2013 Author #8 Posted November 4, 2013 I need step by step directions on how to combine shipping from the sellers perspective once the sell is complete. Can anyone tell me how to do this? I have never SOLD anything on ebay before, just bought stuff. Thanks RandyA
cowpuc Posted November 4, 2013 #9 Posted November 4, 2013 Randy I have sold lots of stuff on Ebay and can maybe help you out.. Ebay charges rates on a percentage of actual SALE amount - the amount is amortized on a sliding scale of dollar amount.. There are some other costs that sellers realize depending on ad layout and such but none are associated with shipping. When building an ad as a seller you can select from many choices for shipping, you can state actual shipping costs, you can advertise international shipping, you can state combined shipping, you can state pick up only and the list goes on and on - included in this group is the "combine shipping" selection.. I personally always select this option because it is a plus in the selling of items BUT, even if I didnt select this option I can, without breaking any rules or having to pay more to ebay as a seller, combine shipments anytime I want. Shipping doesnt effect what the seller pays e-bay because they are billed on sales not including shipping .. That said, please understand that once anything is posted by the seller (like shipping) and the bidding process is complete he cannot change the things (like shipping costs) and charge you more without you being in agreement AND you as a buyer cannot change things and pay him less (like shipping) without him being in agreement.. Simple "contract" agreement stuff.. Some sellers use a shipping agent, when this happens a seller can lose all control over shipping associated costs. Yes its easier (you dont have to do anything but drop the stuff off) but the opportunity to post auction negotiate is sometimes compromised.. If thats the case and he posted shipping costs than yea, he might not have a choice..

If so, he just goes into his paypal account and builds a bill to you that includes what he is charging you for shipping and sends it to you thru Paypal. When you receive the bill, log onto your paypal account and the bill will appear - select "pay" and you will get a receipt.. Are you paying by other means? Decide between the two of you what the final tally is (total sales + shipping), send him a money order and than he goes into his ebay account and selects "paid" on these auctions.. Than he ships the items..
brd7666 Posted November 4, 2013 #11 Posted November 4, 2013 Ebay has been taking a percentage of the shipping fee from me.
Condor Posted November 4, 2013 #12 Posted November 4, 2013 Ebay has been taking a percentage of the shipping fee from me. A few years ago eBay finally woke up and took a look at how much money they were being scamed out of by sellers inflating the shipping price on an item with a give away price on it, and started charging for the total amount including shipping. This was happening a lot with Chinese/Hong Kong sellers. Those sellers will not combine shipping...period, because it would be like giving the item away.
Bob Myers Posted November 4, 2013 #13 Posted November 4, 2013 If he insist on charging full price, then ship it to 3 different addresses. Your home, your work and your neighbor. I have told shippers this many times and all but one gave me an "updated price" that was realistic.
Venturous Randy Posted November 4, 2013 Author #14 Posted November 4, 2013 Evidently he got it figured out. I copied Cowpuc's post and sent it to him. He ended up dropping one of the shipping charges, so I got a MKII headlight, a tail light assy and a signal light for $27.97 and that is with $25 shipping, so he did make money off shipping. I was just surprised that I was the only bidder on these items and they were listed at 99 cents starting bid, especially the signal light. I have a MKII light in my MKI, but I have had a problem with pivot ball inside the light that adjusts for up and down. Anyway, thanks for all the comments. Oh, I always look at shipping costs before I bid on anything and will usually ask about combined shipping, but this time there was not enough time to ask and get an answer. RandyA
