bikerjohn Posted February 26, 2008 #1 Posted February 26, 2008 I recieved a Sebel horn. Can it be installed in place of one of the stock horns? Has anyone placed it in the side fairings? I do not want to split the front fairing. BikerJohn
1BigDog Posted February 26, 2008 #2 Posted February 26, 2008 Carbon One from this forum sells a nice polished bracket to mount the Stebel horn in the stock location. Im sure he will chime in here. You may be able to find it in the VR classifieds. 15.00.
TEW47 Posted February 27, 2008 #3 Posted February 27, 2008 I attached mine on the right passenger floorboard bolt. The bolt toward the rear.Had a piece of brass flat bar about three inches long and 3/4" wide, already had hole in eaach end. Bolted right up, no problems. tew47
nkbjones Posted February 27, 2008 #4 Posted February 27, 2008 It will mount up in the stock location on the right side over the muffler. Very easy install in that location. You can use Carbon one's mount, or you can get a stainless L bracket at your local hardware store.
Al Bates Posted February 27, 2008 #5 Posted February 27, 2008 I had it on the right side at first with one of Larry's brackets. I had to remove the stock chrome horn. Later I removed the AIS and moved the Sebel horn were the rear AIS use to be and put back the stock chrome horn. Check out the pic's below, I hope they help.
dharnie Posted February 27, 2008 #6 Posted February 27, 2008 I put pics here: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=19542 I like the idea of the horn out in front of me instead of behind me. Did not like idea of it under or inside fairing because I thought it would be muffled - but it is very loud even installed in front fairing!
KiteSquid Posted February 27, 2008 #7 Posted February 27, 2008 I would think that there would be substantial sound deadening by mounting it in the fairing, but if you put two Stable Nautilus (also sold as the Wolo Bad Boy) hons on the RSV, inside the fairing would be a great place for the second one... I mounted my first one using Carbonone's bracket. I have not yet purchased a second horn...
Ponch Posted February 27, 2008 #8 Posted February 27, 2008 I put mine inside the fairing much like Dharnie's. Its only the 120db (I think) model, but its plenty loud even inside the fairing.
Pilot Posted February 27, 2008 #9 Posted February 27, 2008 Right side horn facing forward. Buy Carbon1's bracket or use an L bracket from any hardware store and it will face outward from the bike. Buy a straight bracket (6"L x 3/4"w) and it will use the original horn mounting bolts and will face forward. See this post also for a discussion and some pictures: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=8707 This one for installation instuctions: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=91&highlight=stebel+horn+installation
yamahamer Posted February 27, 2008 #10 Posted February 27, 2008 I GOT TO HERE ONE OFF THESE FOR THE FIRST TIME LAST WEEKEND AT ECS MEAT AND EAT............ON MY WISH LIST NOW!
Guest Saddletramp Posted February 27, 2008 #11 Posted February 27, 2008 Where is the second horn? The right side is easily visible but I have yet to see a 2nd horn. I was given a plain Stebel(not chrome) and would like to mount it but I'll be darned if I can see the 2nd horn. I may put it in the fairing like another man did.
ahoutzer Posted February 27, 2008 #12 Posted February 27, 2008 One of the horns is under the left-side lower -- in front of your left shin, but encased in that plastic cowl that surrounds the radiator.
KiteSquid Posted February 27, 2008 #13 Posted February 27, 2008 One factory horn is INSIDE the upper fairing. You cant see it unless you use an allen wrench to split the fairing. One factory horn is just above the back end of the right hand side drivers foot board.
Guest Saddletramp Posted February 27, 2008 #14 Posted February 27, 2008 I would want to mount the plain stebel then on the left side. My Venture is an '06 Midnight. One response says that the left horn is in the lower fairing and another says it is in the upper fairing. By upper I take it you mean the front fairing.
Freebird Posted February 27, 2008 #15 Posted February 27, 2008 One factory horn is INSIDE the upper fairing. You cant see it unless you use an allen wrench to split the fairing. One factory horn is just above the back end of the right hand side drivers foot board. If this is true, then it is different that the '99 and other years. They never had one in the upper fairing.
KiteSquid Posted February 28, 2008 #16 Posted February 28, 2008 Disregard my post, it is in the lower fairign...
bikerjohn Posted February 28, 2008 Author #17 Posted February 28, 2008 Mounted the horn in the front fairing. Put new hex head bolts on the light bar. Sounds good and I left the one on the Right side.
Guest Saddletramp Posted February 28, 2008 #18 Posted February 28, 2008 I didn't think to ask when here earlier, but where did you get your power source from? I figured I could run the relay with the factory horn wires but what about the power to run the horn? Is there a source right in the area or should I run the power direct from the battery?
KiteSquid Posted February 28, 2008 #19 Posted February 28, 2008 I went from the hot bus. To find it, just follow the red wire from the battery to its end.... I prefer to have as few connections to the battery as possiable. Install a fuse holder and run to the relay...
bikerjohn Posted February 28, 2008 Author #20 Posted February 28, 2008 In the right side fairing there is a fuse box. I ran off of the rr rect. There is no wire on the output side so I cut down a spade terminal and put it in the terminal and there is power. BikerJohn
dharnie Posted March 4, 2008 #21 Posted March 4, 2008 my back RSV horn is not working. I ran the wires from its harness up under the gas tank and into the fairing since it was already wired to the button. You have option to bypass RSV stock horns or use them with the air horn. So I have the air horn in the fairing and the stock front horn in the left leg cowling working together. If I ever find another rear stock horn on ebay I will install it too.
