Ventureless Posted October 31, 2013 #1 Posted October 31, 2013 (edited) Ok so I finally get all my electrical crap sorted and fixed. Now I am having fuel issues. First I have a leaky petcock. It used to leak on run so I started using reserve all the time because it didn't leak in that position. Well now it has started leaking in both positions. Pretty easy to take care of. Would you guys recommend just replacing all the orings and crap in it or just buying a new petcock and just replacing it? Also I keep finding petcocks on ebay for a 96-99 Royal Star. $24 brand new. This is versus $60+ for a 99-11. It looks set up the same as mine. I do have a 99. Not sure exactly what the issue is or where, but I have an extra set of carbs. So my plan is to just rebuild the extra set I have and then just do a quick swap once they are done. Also replacing fuel lines while I'm in there (if needed). So my question on that is, what is the best rebuild kit to buy for the carbs and is there anything else I should do to them while I am in there? Thanks Edited October 31, 2013 by Ventureless

spike13 Posted October 31, 2013 #3 Posted October 31, 2013 is it a dirty left rear carb? if so it is not leaking is more than likely oil coming from airbox dont worry about it just watch oil level when filling
Condor Posted October 31, 2013 #4 Posted October 31, 2013 I had to pull the petcock on the '99. It leaked and the only position I could get it to stop leaking was in reserve. I ordered all the parts needed to rebuild the valve.... not all that much, but after getting it out the rest of it looked pretty bad, and the stand pipe was missing a filter screen, so went ahead a bought a new one. When I took the old one apart to see what gives it had a broken 'o' ring. I could have replaced it and probably will just to have a spare laying around. If you do decide to rebuild there's two part #'s you'll need. 3AC-24523-00-00 PACKING, AND 3AJ-24534-01-00 SEAL. They'll run you right around $7 bucks. The gasket that seals the petcock to the tank 4X8-24512-00-00 may or may not be needed. It's a judgement call on your part. Anyway it's another $2.50.... Hope this helps....

Usually every 2nd or 3rd tank. So roughly once a week as the bike is ridden usually every day (when not torn apart for maintenance).

There is definitely fuel from somewhere other than my recently leaky petcock.

Yeah if I order stuff to rebuild, I am ordering everything the first time and replacing it all. I figure a 99 with 80K miles, it would be worth the $10 or $15 to have it run another 80K or so miles before needing it again. I am thinking about just ordering a new one. My issue with that is that by the time I get the stock petcock, I would be paying roughly $80 with shipping and all. I can get the Pingle for $100. But is the Pingle any better?
