cheny Posted October 29, 2013 #1 Posted October 29, 2013 Hi me again. Hope I am not being a pain with the Bluetooth and now this. Again I have a 08 venture which I ride all year. I have seen some threads about putting a switch in to turn off the carb heater or just pulling the fuse. thought I would try the easy way and just pull the fuse but I got a lot of interference in the cb. I put the fuse back in and hooked up a switch that lights up when the carb heater comes on. When I turned the switch off, it blew the carb heater fuse and I got the interference again in the cb. What am I doing wrong? Would really like to get these 2 things working.
GeorgeS Posted October 29, 2013 #2 Posted October 29, 2013 I mounted a Relay, close to the fuse ( right side cover ) ( small 1 inch square automotive relay ) I mounted a switch on the cover. Relay, cuts power from the Fuse to the heater units. Buy, one relay, One toggle switch, drill hold in cover to mount switch. Switch ON, heaters On, switch OFF, and the Relay is OPEN Circuit, Heaters are OFF
kevin-vic-b.c. Posted October 29, 2013 #3 Posted October 29, 2013 pardon me for asking................ why
Bert2006 Posted October 29, 2013 #4 Posted October 29, 2013 pardon me for asking................ why Same question, why turn them off?
Guest Posted October 29, 2013 #5 Posted October 29, 2013 Because of the current draw on the charging system. A switch will allow you the option of turning them off in warmer months. Do a search for an article by V7goose on this topic.
Bones158 Posted October 29, 2013 #6 Posted October 29, 2013 I just unplugged them. Never had a problem in cold weather with them disconnected.

Turning a switch off should not blow a fuse. Somehow your switch is grounding out the circuit. Mike
Rick Haywood Posted October 29, 2013 #8 Posted October 29, 2013 I didn't think they worked above a certain temp
Kirby Posted October 29, 2013 #9 Posted October 29, 2013 Mine cuts off when the air conditioner kicks on!!!
RedRider Posted October 29, 2013 #11 Posted October 29, 2013 If he rides year round, I suspect he has heated gear. The available amperage gets eaten up pretty quickly with heated gear and the savings from the carb heaters is significant. I suggest installing a volt meter so you can monitor the battery/charging system. RR
cheny Posted October 29, 2013 Author #12 Posted October 29, 2013 I have a volt meter .On occasions when my wife is with me we run 2 jackets. But why am I getting the interference with the cb.
Sylvester Posted October 29, 2013 #13 Posted October 29, 2013 My CB quit 4 years ago and I sure don't miss it at all. And my wife does not like to wear the intercom headset so I am blessed.
