M61A1MECH Posted October 26, 2013 #1 Posted October 26, 2013 If you have when was the last time you checked how secure they were? While washing the bike today I found my Harley tailights very loose. Took them off to investigate and found the two small bolts that secure the mount for the license plate holder were loose. Removed them and reinstalled with a bit of blue loctite, checked all of the other associated hardware while I was in there , good to go. So if you have not checked your Harley lights for a while, go out and give them a shake to make sure those parts are not teaching your Yamaha some bad habits.

Steve, what's the official name of that light assembly, and do you have a pic laying around you could post??
M61A1MECH Posted October 26, 2013 Author #3 Posted October 26, 2013 Condor, Go to this tech article. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=3768 I am not sure what the real name is.
Condor Posted October 26, 2013 #4 Posted October 26, 2013 Thanks Steve. I finally found a new one listed on eBay. Took a bunch of different searches to find it. However it looks like it might be a newer style. Not as rounded looking. Price was decent....

ragtop69gs Posted October 27, 2013 #8 Posted October 27, 2013 You also need to inspect the STOCK license plate bracket that holds that HD light assembly on, they can and will crack. Mine did and had to be welded. The HD lights are a nice addition, I like them.
calperin Posted October 27, 2013 #9 Posted October 27, 2013 I have them since 7 years ago, never had a problem. BTW, I replace the 1157 lamps with leds. Are great.
uncledj Posted October 27, 2013 #10 Posted October 27, 2013 Your Venture is rejecting the Harley parts. Take two ounces of Seafoam and call me in the morning.
The Tooch Posted October 28, 2013 #11 Posted October 28, 2013 Has anyone put an LED light kit in one off these and swapped out the regular bulbs that come with it........ if so what LED will fit it? Thanks.
calperin Posted October 28, 2013 #12 Posted October 28, 2013 Yes, I said that previously. Now I'll replace the leds for another one bigger.
M61A1MECH Posted October 28, 2013 Author #13 Posted October 28, 2013 I put LEDs in mine when I first mounted them and used this style, http://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/tail-brake-turn/1157-led-bulb-dual-intensity-2-watt-adjustable-right-angle/816/
The Tooch Posted October 28, 2013 #14 Posted October 28, 2013 Thanks Steve. That is the answer, to just what I was asking. They're not too bad a price either, compaired to some I've looked at. Thanks again.
M61A1MECH Posted October 29, 2013 Author #16 Posted October 29, 2013 You only need load resistors for LEDs if you are replacing regular incandesent bulbs in the turn signals with LEDs. For tail lights and brake lights no load resistors sre needed. The load resistors are used to make the turn signals flash at the correct speed, LEDs take less current to operate than the incandesent, so they cause the flasher to operate faster that normal, the added resistance of the load resistors fools the flasher into thinking that the incandesent bulbs are installed, so they flash at the correct speed.
