I'm a BlackBerry user but wanted to post that BBM for iOS (iPhone and cellular connected iPads) and Android was released this afternoon.

 

Posts on Crackberry.com from Android and iOs users has been positive. Over 35,000 reviews on Google android app store averages a 4.2 at this moment, about 7 hours after it was released.

 

This is a multi-platform messaging system that uses data and not SMS/txt. Instant notification that your message was delivered and read. You can instant message Blackberry, iPhone, and Android users.

 

For those interested, go to bbm.com and register. Due to anticipated server load they set it up so that after you register you get an email when it is your turn to download the app.

 

I picked up a new Blackberry Z30 on Friday...and it is amazing ! iPhone and Android users should check out the Z30 and the Z10. Judge for yourself.

I will admit to lightly using iPhones over the years and only comments from friends who are Android users. I have used Blackberry's for 10 years now so granted my opinion is somewhat tilted towards their devices.

 

For business use, using Blackberry Enterprise Server/Services gives the administrator control over the devices. I was the Blackberry Administrator at Toyota for eight years and was able to set controls on company Blackberry's. Automatically configuring devices for site wifi, enabling/disabling Internet and SMS texting to control costs, enforcing security, preventing camera usage, wiping devices when they were reported to be lost.

 

With BB10 and BES10 users are able to "Bring Your Own Device" (BYOD) and the company can "split" the device for business and personal use. This allows corporate data to be kept separate from personal. Confidential documents can't be moved to or accessed from the personal "side". If a person leaves the company, the business data can be wiped from the device with a command from the server, not touching the users personal data.

 

If you look at the specs on the BlackBerry Z10 or Z30, the specs exceed those of the iPhone 5 series. The QNX operating system is "tighter" and creates a smaller operating system that requires less device resources like cpu and memory.

 

Blackberry also supports microSD cards so you aren't limited to the memory on the device. You can insert a microSD card with different music types, use a different card for photos, another one for documents, or however you want to. MicroSD cards up to 64gb can be inserted, essentially increasing the device's memory up to 80gb.

 

Battery on previous BlackBerry's and on the Z10 can be removed allowing you to have a spare charged battery and swap it quickly.

 

The new Z30 has a 2800mA battery whereas the iPhone is around 1800mA. I charged my Z30 on Friday night and after hours of usage with phone calls, surfing, playing music, playing movies, and getting used to the device, by Monday morning I still had 50% left on the battery. The Z10 has an 1800mA battery which will give you a day's charge of generous use.

 

What I suggested in my original post was that iPhone and Android users go to a store and try the device. I'm not trying to sell people on BlackBerry but take a look at it and see what BlackBerry is today.

 

With BlackBerry Messenger there have been over 10 million downloads for iPhone and Android. Average review has been 4.3 out of 5. BBM makes cross platform messaging possible with BBM video, voice and screen sharing soon to come to those devices, things that are available on the native BBM for BlackBerry's.

One other nice feature of the Z30 is that you can connect a powered usb hub to connect wired keyboard and mouse, connect and manage usb memory sticks. This model and previous models allow you to connect bluetooth keyboards and mice as well.

 

The Z30 supports wifi direct and Miracast which allows you to display what is on your screen to a tv or monitor that support Miracast, or use a dongle like tv2go .

 

Imagine a device that you can do email, instant messaging, view Word/Excel/PowerPoint, and watch 1080p movies on, using a keyboard, mouse, big screen tv or monitor, and usb hub for extended memory. I know Miracast is on some Android devices but a set up like this can essentially turn your smartphone into a "desktop".

 

And when you take a look at the Z10 or Z30 (Z30 especially), play a video or music on it and listen to the sound quality. For conference calls the speaker phone is actually usable and clear sounding.
