Oct 16 (Reuters) - U.S. motorcycle maker Harley-Davidson Inc said on Wednesday it is voluntarily recalling more than 29,000 of its 2014 touring motorcycles because of a problem with their hydraulic clutch system.

Recalled models include 25,185 touring motorcycles and 3,861 Custom Vehicle Operations and Trikes built between May 3 and Oct. 14, 2013.

The recalls include a "Do Not Ride" notice to owners and a "Do Not Deliver" notice to Harley-Davidson dealers until the motorcycle is fixed.

"Some of these motorcycles may exhibit a condition in which the hydraulic clutch system may lose the ability to generate enough lift to disengage the clutch," the Milwaukee-based company said in a statement.

Harley-Davidson said it is proceeding with the recalls consistent with National Highway Transportation Safety Administration's process, though the U.S. government body is closed due to the partial government shutdown.

Harley-Davidson said if the clutch does not disengage as intended, the rider may have difficulty slowing or stopping the motorcycle, which could result in an accident. "The repairs have been identified and should take less than one hour."

Harley-Davidson recalled more than 300,000 motorcycles worldwide in 2011 due to problems with the rear brake light switch.

Harley-Davidson said in July that it expects to ship 259,000 to 264,000 motorcycles to dealers worldwide in 2013, up from 247,625 in 2012.

Hope not..........but if so at least they have a fix for it.

I remember when I had my 00 Silverado. GM came out with a recall on them for the emergency brakes would lock up on them. I took mine in to have it fixed. The GM service jerk tells me the recall is only for STICK SHIFT vehicles...

I asked him to pull the parts list for my automatic and tell me "ANY" difference in part numbers between my automatic vehicle and a stick shift vehicle for ANY part number related to the braking system.

He said there isn't a difference.....

I said then WHY are you telling me the recall is only for stick shift vehicles.. He said because the GM recall only mentions stick shift vehicles..........DUH....

(and they wonder why we had to bail them out..)

I left and went home, and disconnected the emergency parking brake system on the vehicle and it was that way for years.. and still is for all I know..

This is just for informational purposes only, not trying to start anything. The recall was not for the E-brakes locking up while driving. It was for the manual transmission vehicles that need the parking brakes when the vehicle is parked on a steep grade, like loading or unloading a boat or something like that. Here is the bulletin for people that were curious, LIKE ME.....:301:

#05042B: Product Safety - Parking Brake Shoe and Drum Contact - (Feb 27, 2006)

Subject: 05042B — PARKING BRAKE SHOE AND DRUM CONTACT

DISCARD ALL COPIES OF BULLETIN 05042A ISSUED JANUARY 2006.

ConditionGeneral Motors has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 1999-2002 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500 Series, and 2001-2005 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500/3500 Series vehicles equipped with a manual transmission. Some of these vehicles may have a contact condition between the parking brake shoes and parking brake drums when the parking brake is not applied. If this were to occur, the driver may or may not hear an intermittent scraping noise from the rear of the vehicle while driving. This condition could cause parking brake lining wear. If this lining wear is undetected, the parking brake may become ineffective in immobilizing a parked vehicle on a grade. An ineffective parking brake may result in a vehicle crash.

Correction1500 Series – Dealers are to inspect the parking brake lining thickness on both rear brakes, and depending on the amount of lining remaining, install either a reduced-force parking brake retainer spring clip on both rear brakes or parking brake shoe kits, which includes the reduced-force clips.

2500-3500 Series – Dealers are to inspect the parking brake lining thickness on both rear brakes and install a new rear right-hand parking brake cable assembly. Also, depending on the amount of lining remaining, install new parking brake shoes (both rear brakes).
