Steve Hamm Posted October 17, 2013 #1 Posted October 17, 2013 It started about 4 rides ago , I would turn the key on and Nothing , then I could turn it back just so much and away it would go . Then some times by just turning it to the right spot it would turn over but not start . that is where it is now , if I turn the key just right , every thing comes one and it turns over , but will not start . I guess what I am asking , is , do I have to buy the new Ignition , or does the by pass fix this ???? By the way ,,,, HI every body ,,
GeorgeS Posted October 17, 2013 #2 Posted October 17, 2013 Sounds like the switch is going bad, this is a common problem. I think there have been some posting with photo's on how to dissemble and repair it. But I'm no sure on that, you might be looking at a new switch . Also, there is a wireing Mod, to bypass the contacts, untill you get it repaired, Check maintenance section for the write up, with photo's

By the way ,,,, HI every body ,, Sounds like you ignition switch is just about to leave you walking! IMHO, the bypass is just a "get you home" measure, not a permanent fix. I think some have done the disassemble on their switch and cleaned the contacts, but that may or may not be successful. How ever you decide to repair the situation, if you have passing lights on the bike, I'd for sure move their wiring to a dedicated relay controlled circuit, to get that load off the ignition switch. I have even put my headlight on a relay to even get THAT load off the ignition switch.
Steve Hamm Posted October 17, 2013 Author #4 Posted October 17, 2013 Thanks for the responses , I will just buy the new switch . Will also look at changing some of the wiring to lessen the load .
