Some other forums make you appreciate sites like this one

Most of you know that I have been a member here since Sept 2004 and have always been treated with respect even though I have ranted from time to time. Same goes for some of the other forums that I have belonged to. A little over a year I ago I bought my Mustang GT and sought out some Mustang Forums and joined most of them, all providing some camaraderie and helpful info so I could dump endless amounts of cash into the car (sounds familiar, right?). At some point I discovered a pretty hard core group of Mustang people with a pretty hard core forum so I joined. The have some pretty hard ground rules and have no problem calling someone a "f***tard" if they feel you did something wrong but they also have some great info to put out from some hardcore people who actually dump serious money into their cars.

Over the few months that I have been there I have posted about 43 posts and was always treated with respect...until post 44. I inquired about headers and accidentally posted in the wrong section. Next day my post was moved, as I expected it would be and located it in the proper section. OK, great. I saw there were at least 8 posts....good. 5 of them berated me for either not doing a search, which I did, or posting in the wrong section and I was given a "Reputation Point" (demerit point, like in kindergarten) after I expresses my disbelief, nicely of course, on the forum. After several points you are banned. These points are usually given to someone who has caused harm to the site or ripped off someone or something of that nature. So, they awarded me a point for either posting in the wrong area or having the nerve to answer them back.

Lets just say, my last post on that site is not printable here. I told them they may as well go ahead and ban me and I erased all of my info. Im just too old and not that kind of a lightweight to put up with this kind of crap.

So, like I said, appreciate sites like this one because there are some really ****** up sites as well out there.

Vent over......

you probably weren't aware that there are repercussions awarded for venting about other sites and you have fallen into that category.

I'm pretty sure that your punishment will be an afternoon or early evening rain nearly every day of the riding season.

UHOH - wait a minute, you have that as it is. OK, since you're already used to the rain - - - - - :innocent-emoticon:

Some folks here think we can be a bit heavy handed with the site. This thread you just put up is the main reason why we run the site like we do. I belong to several other sites as well, mainly H/D and it can get rough and tumble on them.

Good for you in telling them what you thought and basically leaving :thumbsup2:

Your experience is similar to one I had at the "other" site minus the demerit points! I too have been a member of different websites and hands down you can't beat this one!!! I really feel at home here with my extended family!!!!!:banana::banana:

Ruffy, You put this is the wrong forum..........................--1

:)

So since 2 negatives make a positive, does that mean you just gave him a brownie point?

Along with brownie points is the requirement that you supply brownies ala-mode.:essen_018:

The Touring Hogs site is off to a VERY slow site. I knew it would be a steep hill to climb though because there are just so many well established Harley sites out there. We'll see.

Now, as for the demerits and etc. There is actually a reputation system and strikes system built into the software here but I disabled it from the beginning and have never considered turning it on.

I occasionally go on the Maxima site and there are some jerks on there. They love to jump on newbies anytime they can. There always seems to be more griping than helping each other.

I feel fortunate that we have this site and it is ran the way it is.

YES this the best site I've been on! I also go on the XJbikes site but it does NOT have the family feel that this site has. Don't get me wrong its a GOOD site to get help and there are quite a few members there who are willing to give you assistance.:detective:

But it is not as active as this one and it can take a while to get some answers! The best thing about that site is they have an on site parts supplier who can give you an answer on any problem you have with a Yamaha Seca or XJ. Also Micarl is on it also.:whistling:

Been here since '06, was on two Wing sites when I had a Wing, now on two Victory sites ... one of the Wing sites was the worst as there were a number of guys there who would not hesitate to stir the pot or cause trouble ... as if they had nothing better to do. That one site even has a special forum just for bashers to bash each other LOL

Good here and both Vic sites are pretty decent, one being better than the other.

One thing that is quite different between this site and the Vic sites is most of y'all here are old geezers like me! :rotfl: :stickpoke:

That says a lot about why this site is the way it is. Most us old farts were taught respect early on. I still got scars from some of my lessons. LOL.

I just want to add that being a part of this site has really made my latest venture (no pun intended) into motorcycling the best yet. I sold my last bike, an HD, in 1994 as I was buying a small farm and needed the money. I was so busy with house projects for the next years that I did not have a motorcycle. About 2 1/2 years ago I realized I was finally ramping down on my house & farm projects and wanted a bike again. I bought a low mileage RSTD and wife and I have loved it. Buying used and for a reasonable price left me with some spare cash to do some upgrades. Over the last 2 years I have done many things suggested by all of you. Barb and I want to thank you, members of this site. I am sure I have asked things that have been answered before and broken other rules of etiquette, but everyone has been great. As I just turned 57 2 weeks ago, does that make me eligible for the old farts club?

That would NEVER happen here...

It is an incredible waste of valuable time and effort to make sure you get a demerit for silly things. If that were me, the non printable New York vocabulary would be an eye opener for some. Glad for you, that you didn't accept that nonsense.

Kinda goes without saying.:rotfl::rotfl: You're only as old as you feel. This place is like Hotel California. You can check out but never leave.:rotfl::D
