Ventureless Posted October 15, 2013 #1 Posted October 15, 2013 I want to remove the finned covers and paint them. Just want to make sure they are just covers. Nothing behind them I have to worry about or reseal right. Just a simple unbolt and remove and bolt right back on? Thanks
Freebird Posted October 15, 2013 #2 Posted October 15, 2013 That is pretty much it. There are some water jacket plugs. They won't fall out but they are just a press fit and you won't want to run the bike with the fins off. Inspect them for leaks. It is a common place that people have found water leaks and it may be a good time to go ahead and replace them. Very simple job.

I figure while half the bike is torn apart now anyway, it would be a good time to do it.
Condor Posted October 15, 2013 #4 Posted October 15, 2013 You will need to loosen the front of the fuel tank and get it up out of the way get to the dog bone hanger's top hex cap screws. Not a big deal. And since you already have it torn down it may be a moot point??
davecb Posted October 15, 2013 #5 Posted October 15, 2013 I had one replaced under warranty. Dealer didn't have the part so they ordered it. Bike sat overnight, and when they came to work there was coolant all over the place from the plug leaking with the cover off. You may want to try and tape the plugs after you remove the covers.
djh3 Posted October 15, 2013 #6 Posted October 15, 2013 I would try poping the rad cap while you have them off.
