Yammer Dan Posted October 14, 2013 #1 Posted October 14, 2013 One of Larry's adapters is in my future but Warden keeping a eye on my spending. Can't understand that. Question is can I use my Harbor Freight lift? I seem to remember blocking it up? This thing has a lot of chrome that needs attention. Seems I went thru this not long ago with a 86. I want to try it out but got started cleaning. Hey Eck......Any Tips??? What kind of blocks do I need and just make sure I am lifting on Frame??
etcswjoe Posted October 14, 2013 #2 Posted October 14, 2013 You can use a couple of 2x4's just make sure you are on the frame at the front foot fest and around where the center stand would normally be center over the jack as much as you can. I don't remember if I had to notch anything out or not. An old thread with a few ideas http://www.venturerider.org/forum/archive/index.php/t-34853.html
djh3 Posted October 14, 2013 #3 Posted October 14, 2013 I had to fabricate one up to use my Craftsman ATV jack for my 900 Vulcan. When I got the RSV I moved the blocks a little. I used a couple 2x4 as mentioned. I think I had to notch a place or 2 but that might have been for the 900. I used a couple hose clamps to keep the wood on the rails of the jack and not slip n slide on me. Go lossen the battery connections on her car. When it dont start go fiddle with it and tell her the battery is on the way out. It may last a week or so. Then when you get the dough, divert the funds. You know kinda like the goberment and social security. Now you see it poof now its somewhere else.
Stealthblade Posted October 14, 2013 #4 Posted October 14, 2013 Me, personally, I bought the J&S jack AND Larry's adapater. Sure, the J&S works fine, but it marks the surface of the jack supports. With the Carbon One adapter, it's a beautiful marriage. I suppose it does not matter the lifting device, but I feel the adapter is the key. With Larry's adapter you can do no wrong, and it helps out a member. Bob
Yammer Dan Posted October 14, 2013 Author #5 Posted October 14, 2013 Yeah I'm wanting a adapter(she don't drive) but would like to get to know this thing.
M61A1MECH Posted October 14, 2013 #6 Posted October 14, 2013 You will need to notch the 2x4 block on the left front position to miss the kickstand switch, if you do not, you will likely be buying a new side stand switch, shortly.
Huggy Posted October 15, 2013 #7 Posted October 15, 2013 I just tell the better half I need it and you really don't want to know how much it cost!!
Snaggletooth Posted October 15, 2013 #8 Posted October 15, 2013 Weren't some of the guys cutting notches in hockey pucks to give clearence and protect the contact points on the bike? From my Droid wherever I may happen to be at any given moment.
Yammer Dan Posted October 15, 2013 Author #9 Posted October 15, 2013 Yeah they were Mike. She wouldn't say anything if I got the adaptor now its just that I feel a little guilty with that 2nd Gen sitting out there..... Boss has one for his Hardley...
