OK, I went to replace the lens covers on the '07 with some that are tinted smoke. I ran into a problem once before when working on the '99, but I've forgotten what I did back then. Anyway, how many of you have pitched that dam rubber gasket when replacing a bulb etc.??? Is it just me or do the rest of you have the same problem. After screwing around for 20 minutes trying to get the gasket back in there, I fianlly said the he11 with it and left it out and it fits just fine without it.....

I dont care for the smoked lenses. Got enough problems with cages not seeing my indications when turning/braking/changing lanes. sure dont want to camoflage it.

But I did have to work on the front turn signals today and I have had the rears apart a couple times changing to LED bulbs and then back. (they didnt work as neat-o as I thought they would) Not particularly had any issues with the gaskets. I have had more troubles with the tailight lens gasket. The issue I had today with the front signal was actually the little plastic washer goober was so far down on the screw that it wouldnt pass thru the lens hole and get a bite. I had to turn the screw until the washer was against the lens then start it.

Well in sunny Cali you may not need those gaskets, but in wet FL, those signals will fill up with rain water first time you get caught in one our frog drowning down pours.

You may want to drill some small drain holes in the bottom of the lenses or the housings, just in case it rains some where down the road. just sayin.

I hear ya. That's why we drill holes in the bottom of our boat trailer brake lights. Don't beleive it when they say they're water proof. Out here on the left coast we don't have an issue with riding in down pours.... Down pours?? What's a down pour....?

Use some 3M decal glue and a small artist/craft paint brush and paint around edge and then the gasket.

 

Works every time.

 

Have also lightly coated the gasket with vaseline.

OK heres an option to think about. If you pull the gaskets out, take black RTV silicone and nicely run it around the same place the gasket came out. Your skill and precisness will depend on tool used. Maybe a flat tooth pick or the like. Anyways after you get the RTV where it should be and about the thickness of the gasket, take some vasiline and coat the edge that goes against the gasket. Dont need to make a mess but a thin coat. Let RTV skin up but still have a little pliability. Then install lens. The vasoline should keep the RTV from sticking the lens perminatly while making a ssemi-perminat gasket that wont fall out all the time. If you got crappy T-tops in a caorvette and the rubber seal has chunks out of it this will also work for a temp fix. Wanna know how I know?

my gaskets are junk too-- just bought clear lens im gonna put in this weekend. I was thinking maybe I would make my own- using large rubber O-rings-- you can take a o ring and cut it with a razor, and add more or less o ring and reglue it with crazy glue. Not a good idea for high pressure uses but may work for this. will let ya know after the weekend

Threw one of those gaskets away because like Condor after enjoying it's desire to refuse to stay put I sent it to the time out trash can! However Now the lens rattles and for those of us who are not just Fair weather riders in Calif. I will try the decal glue from a Craft Store? Now off to Yammie for a rubber dingy.

I wonder just how many are running around without the gaskets?? Youda thought that Y coulda done a better job designing the dam thing....

Had to change a bulb today....wasn't so bad...just takes a little patience putting it all back with the rubber gasket and the chrome shade piece.

Figured i might change both at the sametime, but couldnt get the other bulb out. Just wouldn't budge. Was worried about breaking the bulb trying to get it out, so left it alone.

Is there a trick to getting these bulbs out easily?

Use a rag to get the bulb out incase it breaks in your fingers-- if it does break-- then its real easy- just grab it with some needle nose plyers.

On the o-ring idea- i found that ya cant use smaller ones and glue together to make a big one to fit- the natural curve is just too much of a fight to get it to stay put to get it back together.... But if ya can find o-rings bigger then the lense and cut them down to size-- it works great-- I used o-rings off of big oil filters for semi trucks here at work, but they need to be the right size in diameter too-- dont try to squeeze a fat one in there
