Hi..

I am about to embark on replacing the clutch boss that has a broken stud..

instead of getting just the clutch boss, I found a complete clutch set with basket, boss, plates ect, all together for a few dollars more,

figured I would take it apart and keep the extras for spares..

As I look at this thing.. it looks like it can just slip it on the way it is..

So my question is, is it possible to unscrew the center nut that holds in the clutch basket/boss/plates and slide the whole thing out, and just slide this one in??

as I look at book and the bike, some parts of my logic say Yes, it is that simple..

the other part says it can't be that easy and you missing something that will turn this simple project into a nightmare..

has anyone done this?? or know if it can be done,

or should I just change out the clutch boss??

Thank you..

Well I found my answer when I went a did it..

simple answer Yes and No..

If you can get the nut off without taking out plates and steels then yes..

if not then you have to take out the plates and steels and at that point your pretty much done anyway..

I did however avoid the whole wire piece by using the one on the new that also had the wire and first two place in place..

all in all took about an hour..

I must say, that poor boss was really messed up, last person in there had a very heavy hand, or a very badly calibrated torque wrench..

but all is good now..

I Hope.. off for a test ride..

Cheers!!

Did you find a clutch replacement procedure somewhere. I have to replace my friction plates and don't think my manual has a good explanation of the procedure.

There must be one out there somewhere on this site.

I used this one..

but the link Midlifeventure posted works just as well..

It is really easy..just take your time and don't rush,

the main thing is, DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN THE BOLTS!!!

very, bad things happen when you do..

mine happened bacause the PO over tightend them and cracked the studs, so when went to retighten after replacing the clutch plate, the stud just cracked and crumbled, before I was even through fully inserting the bolt in the stud..
