rbig1 Posted October 13, 2013 #1 Posted October 13, 2013 took my 83 through the tac range. the tci limited me at 7400 looks like it cuts all power as tac dies out for 500 rpm. it was a little more agressive than i thought. just like switch turned off no stumble or miss just off. just wanted to feel seat of pants through gears. any one try theres? plenty fast enough for me. just wanted to make sure had full range.
Prairiehammer Posted October 13, 2013 #2 Posted October 13, 2013 There is no rev limiter on the First Gen. Are you running a stock TCI?
rbig1 Posted October 14, 2013 Author #3 Posted October 14, 2013 no i have an ign tec old one ran on three.
86er Posted October 14, 2013 #4 Posted October 14, 2013 I don't know for sure about the 83-85, but I imagine they are like the 86 and up. I didn't think I had one on my 86 either and asked a mech friend if he could install one. He asked what year it was and I said 86. He said "It has one" and I said" no it doesn't because I keep blowing past the 7500 red line!" He started it, opened the throttle all the way and it hit the rev limiter at 10,000 rpm! (Just like the V-Max) He said "I wouldn't go there too often, but it's there if you need it." I only used it once, racing a Road Glide. Went to the limiter in fist, went to the limiter in second and looked down as I shifted to third. I was doing 103mph!!!
Prairiehammer Posted October 14, 2013 #5 Posted October 14, 2013 In the case of the Ignitech, you can set the rev limit to your specifications. Look under the "Miscellaneous" tab for "Limiter". Use the up or down arrows to set the rev limiter.
rbig1 Posted October 14, 2013 Author #6 Posted October 14, 2013 yep new that. just was supprized how aggressive it hits. will prob raise it 500 rpm higher. then if i hit it its my fault. never ride that hard just seeing if full throttle range was working right. not the smoothest rider.
Flyinfool Posted October 14, 2013 #7 Posted October 14, 2013 A stock venture will be well into valve float before it gets to 10K. Are you sure it was a rev limiter that you hit and not just valve float?
rbig1 Posted October 14, 2013 Author #8 Posted October 14, 2013 todd jeff is right valves are prob floating. do you have ign tec tci or stock. you may want to set it if an aftermarket. could put valves to pistons they dont run good after that. ask me how i know. was young and dumb ever been there. with ign tec tac drops off takes power away totally better be hanging on. no warning.
dingy Posted October 14, 2013 #9 Posted October 14, 2013 A stock venture will be well into valve float before it gets to 10K. Are you sure it was a rev limiter that you hit and not just valve float? Tweety would float valves at about 8500, this was before any modifications were made to it. 8,000 rev limiter is safe setting on Ignitech. Gary
rbig1 Posted October 14, 2013 Author #10 Posted October 14, 2013 thanks gary was wondering if 8000 was safe. close enough to floating for me. just dont want to hit limiter. at that rpm you need to shift as speed not climbing need next gear.

I guess we must be mistaken.... And I'm pretty sure I'm not blind yet....Just after you pass redline in third it's moving to quick to take a long look.....:clap2: I think Muffin and a few other old timers will back us up!!
