Phoneman1981 Posted October 13, 2013 #1 Posted October 13, 2013 Hello Everyone: While listing to the radio this morning I heard a Geico Motorcycle ad. I was shocked at the content. The ad portrayed a solo male rider and his attitude toward females. Bragged how easy it was to insure his Beast. Ad ended with a mention of a sidecar and maybe he might allow a female to ride but only then. Has anyone else heard this ad yet? What were they thinking? If I were a female owner I would be pi$$ed and darn sure would not purchase insurance from Geico. Any thoughts??
ediddy Posted October 14, 2013 #2 Posted October 14, 2013 Haven't heard the ad and don't care to. Everytime I think gottago and progressive can't get any more stupid with their ads they do. I wouldn't buy anything from any company that stupid. Of course the motorcycle rates for both of these companies are out of site but I learned people will buy anything if you advertise on tv enough. Friday I insured a 99 Harley Road King Classic. The guy had just purchased coverage with gottago and was complaining to one of my insureds that liab and comp and coll was over $600 per year so he had to go with liability only and it was $380 per with gottago. My insured told him to call me and I gave him liability, uninsured motorists, comp and coll with a $250 deductible, roadside assistance and $3500 for accessory coverage for $333 per year. A guy was referred to me last week that had a 06 Road King with progressive and was paying $621 per year. I gave the same coverage for $283 per year. Progressive spent over 600 million on advertising last year and gottago spent over 800 million. I guess they believe there is a sucker born everyday and if they spend enough advertising the suckers will buy.
Freebird Posted October 14, 2013 #3 Posted October 14, 2013 I don't think you can make a blanket statement like that. It apparently depends upon the area where you live. I have my cars and motorcycles insured through Progressive and I HAVE shopped around. Nobody else has come close to even matching what I am paying for the same coverage. Also, when I needed them last year after hitting a deer in my Avalanche. The service was very good and fast.
ediddy Posted October 14, 2013 #5 Posted October 14, 2013 Freebird, You are right. There are a few instances where prog is competetive. If we quote 10 autos they will be competetive on one or two. However on motorcycles they they are always in left field.
calperin Posted October 14, 2013 #6 Posted October 14, 2013 Good catch. Any clue about Michigan? I had AAA on the car and Progressive on the bikes, but they 're both soo high...
RandyR Posted October 14, 2013 #7 Posted October 14, 2013 (edited) My experience with Progressive is that they started out being competitive and every year raised their rates until they were no longer. They did cover my accident on the BMW K1100 I had prior to getting my Yamaha RSTD. However, their adjuster cut a deal with the MC shop doing the repairs, and when all the money was spent (and 6 months had elapsed), only 1/2 the BMW had been repaired, it still leaked oil severely and there were scratches over much of the MC that didn't get re-painted or parts replaced. I wound up walking away from the motorcycle for $1000 which the shop gave me for it as-is. That basically covered my deductible out of pocket expenses. Net, I got nothing. My bad, I should have taken the initial insurance company settlement. But I wanted the bike repaired. I probably should have sued the shop and Progressive, but I wasn't willing to invest the time and energy into going to court. Edited October 14, 2013 by RandyR
Venturous Randy Posted October 14, 2013 #8 Posted October 14, 2013 I have Farm Bureau on my house, cars and bike and they have been very good to me and are far cheaper than any other that I have found. RandyA
dwatson636 Posted October 14, 2013 #9 Posted October 14, 2013 I have Progressive for my car and my bike. Have had nothing but good things to say about them. We had our car stolen and totaled and a bike accident and they were very good and quick with everything. Couldn't be happier.
Stealthblade Posted October 14, 2013 #10 Posted October 14, 2013 My wife is a Surety Specialist / "Bond" Girl for an insurance company here in Illinois. When I got the Suzuki C50, they put me with Progressive. When I upgraded to the RSV, they kept me with Progressive. I trust my insurance to her, and will never think twice. What she recommends is the best for me as a person and as her husband. It may come down to how favorable your state is in the "interest of the company", but, my lifeline is inches away most times. No, We do not have our house and cars insured through Progressive, but I trust her judgement in all things insurance related. Just my $0.02

MiCarl Posted October 15, 2013 #12 Posted October 15, 2013 Good catch. Any clue about Michigan? I had AAA on the car and Progressive on the bikes, but they 're both soo high... Part of the problem in Michigan is the state Catastrophic Claims Fund. Basically it's reinsurance that picks up expenses after the insurer maxes out. It will pay medical and disability for life. The MCC is assessed by vehicle, not by driver. So you keep repaying it with each vehicle you insure. My wife and I have three trucks and a motorcycle each so we pay five times for just the two of us. On the bikes we only have liability so the MCC is most of the price of the policy. The MCC varies from time to time depending on the health of the fund. It's close to $200/year/vehicle though.
Freebird Posted October 15, 2013 #13 Posted October 15, 2013 Here is the issue that I am facing. I went online the other night to cancel the insurance on the RSV that I sold to Yammer. All I ever carried on it was liability. When I submitted the change, I got a warning message that if I deleted it then my insurance would go up by $90.00 per year due to losing my multi-bike discount. So now what to do? I can save $90.00 a year by insuring Dan's bike for him.
ediddy Posted October 15, 2013 #15 Posted October 15, 2013 Next time I need advice on my auto or home insurance I will call a bond specialist. When I need a bond I will call a home and auto insurance specialist.

Don, Is that a $90 total increase or just $90 more for your Harley? I know up here insurance is a lot more... if I have 2 bikes it basically doubles even though I can't ride both at the same time. . But if I was to drop the one and pay $90 more on the other, it would still be a net gain.
Freebird Posted October 16, 2013 #19 Posted October 16, 2013 No, the increase was actually more than $90.00 I guess. I was paying about 80.00 per year for liability on the Venture. If I cancelled it, my insurance was not going down by $80.00 but increasing by $90.00. I don't remember exactly what I'm paying but just as an example...say I was paying $360.00 for full coverage on the Road Glide and liability on the Venture. If I cancelled the Venture, the price was going up to $450.00 even though it was now JUST for the Road Glide.

Hey, I'm paying around 90$/Month for two bikes, plus 400$/Month for two cars and house. This is around almost 6K$/Year total. This is a rape...
ediddy Posted October 16, 2013 #21 Posted October 16, 2013 I was pretty harsh on progressive in my original post but they deserve it. Everyone praising them get ready. They are not the same progressive they were a few years ago. I was upset with them when I posted because I had an insured that was paying $178 per month for auto insurance with 25/50/25 liability but when it is due in November they aren't going to renew. I called and asked why, they said because they ran a report that shows him living in Florida not Georgia. He hasn't lived in Florida since 2011. They want me to get him to bring in a copy of a utility bill, rental agreement or homeowner policy. I'm not goint to do that so I was going to rerate with another company. I called up his policy with progressive to see in anything was on his driving record. There was a surcharge for an unverifiable mvr. I went back to my notes and on 10/28/2011 I sent them a copy of his georgia drivers license and they removed the surcharge but on the renewal they put the surcharge back on the policy. I called and the cust serv rep said progressive would go back to 2011 and credit him for the screw up and he would have a credit of $378. I quoted with another company and can give him 100/300/50 liability for $122 per month so he signed a cancellation that I faxed to progressive and I rewrote him. Monday I went on progressive's web site and it shows they sent him a refund for $135 so I called and was told they aren't going back to the 2011 term. They are only going to give the credit on the current term. This is not an isolated case, it is happening all the time. They're calims service is going down hill and a claims rep with them admitted this. My brother-in-law was stopped at a traffic light and was hit in the rear by a progessive insured at 10:00am and the driver was charged with dui. Progressive made two appointments to meet my brother-in-law at the body shop but didn't show up. He called progressive and they assigned the claim to another rep that told him the new reps they have hired don't know or care about customer service. I just fought with them on a motorcycle claim. I've had this guy insured with progressive since 2005. He bought a 1800vtx honda and spent $30,000 customizing the bike. He stopped at a convenience store and when he came out the bike wouldn't start. He called his wife to come get him and they borrowed a trailer and went back and the bike was gone. It was found two days later at a truck stop burned. After 30 days of jacking him around and even requesting he sign a release for his medical recoreds he called me. I got in on the claim and talked to the rep. They said it was unusual to find a stolen bike burned. I told him this happens every day with autos. They felt like he had it stolen. I told them if they had proof deny the claim if not pay it or they would be held liable for bad faith damages that could be many times more than the claim. They decided to pay. This isn't an isolated case, it is happening more and more. I go on a linked in page for insurance agents and there are agents all over the US complaining and saying they aren't going to write any policies with progressive.
