so i upgraded my audio again

i dont know if there is anyone else here that loves their tunes on the road and want a little more thump than the tiny 4" speakers.

the supplies are

-kicker 5 1'4" coaxial speakers (water proof and incredibly light weight)

-clarion amp

-Wirez RCA cables

-Norton structural epoxy

-landu black vynal dye

 

 

so first thing on the list was to cut out the old speaker and the vent mount (all my vents have been removed as well as the duct work, stuffs useless anyway)

then i used a textured plastic to back the panel for reinforcement the floppiness of the stock setup always concerned me

then i cut some plastic to fit into the hole cleanly and epoxied it in, then cut a hole in the two layers to mount the speakers and mounted them to the new location

now in the pictures i have the amp mounted to the inner panel of the fairing thats a no no on this bike, turns out our old girls are confusing and not quite normal as my audio guy says. i was having an issue where the amp would work perfectly until i cracked on the throttle. spent a week hunting down the issue, and we were crazy stumped. tried isolating it as much as i could from the bike and even covered both sided of the cover in dayna mat. turns out that the ignition coils on out bikes create an EM field of sorts that spreads out about half way into each side of the fairings. so the only place they can be mounted to to use epoxy to attach the amp to the fairing itself to get it out of the feild.

will add pictures tomorrow but i textured the panels afterwards, i would fill any holes and cracks with epoxy. then i would sand all the epoxy spots until smooth. then i would mist the panels in rocker guard and sand between coats until the texture was smooth and uniform throughout, then once the textures were all matched i sprayed any black plastics with landu black dye to help restore anything that has been getting sun faded

 

 

 

needless to say the end result is one hell of a rocking sound system

the video dosent really capture how loud it really is, i mean when your sitting on the bike and have it turned up high you can feel the speakers hit you in the chest its fantastic

 

the speakers are 2 ohm. the amp can give a bit more power to two ohm easier than 4 ohm.

Black Wing; Nice job. I'm wondering what speakers you used? Do you have a model #? apparently Kicker makes several 5 1/4'' speakers, and at least two different ones for HD. Thanks.

I just installed 5.25 inch speakers to my audio system. I used the Kicker DSC54 they are a 4 ohm speaker. I was already using a after market Pioneer head unit. The unit puts out 20 watts RMS per channel, the speakers take 50 watts continuous and sound great. I am thinking of adding an amp, but not really needed. The head unit originally came with 4 6.5 speakers. Mine didn't come as well cosmetically as I would have like but it is functional. I had Kicker 4.5 in prior to this and the sound improvement is fantastic.

 

I also used these as speaker enclosures.
