I stopped at Competition Accessories in Springfield , Ohio on Tuesday afternoon to see if they had the kit mentioned in the TSB for the trunk on my 1999 RSV. David took pictures of the cracks in the trunk and all the info from my bike and said he would call Yamaha on Wednesday and see what they would do. He called me Wednesday morning and said Yamaha wouldn't take care of it because of the age of the bike. He suggested I call Yamaha pesonally as customers sometimes have better luck than the dealers do.

I called Mother Yamaha yesterday to see what they could do for my 1999 RSV with a cracked trunk. They checked my VIN and said their records showed the TSB had never been perfomed by the previous owners. The TSB didn't have an expiration date listed so they are going to send me a new trunk base and mounting kit free of charge. It will not be the correct color as my color is no longer available. They are sending me a magenta colored trunk so I will have to get it painted to match my bike. Not a bad deal for a bike that is 14 years old.:cool10::cool10::cool10::cool10::cool10:

My '99RSV trunk had minor star cracks when I bought it. I wouldn't even had checked but another member posted about them. So I went ahead and bought the fix plates and sealed the cracks with IPS abs repair. The plates ran $5.00 bucks, and I already had the IPS ABS solvent. Unless the trunk is badly cracked this is a lot cheeper way to go.... http://www.weldon.com/solvent

Here's a list of the parts needed to fix the problem.

#88- PLATE 7 4XY-2846P-00-00 - $1.79

#89- PLATE,RUBBER 9 4XY-2849J-00-00 - $0.99

#90- PLATE, 8 4XY-2846R-00-00 - $1.76

#91- PLATE, RUBBER 11 4XY-2847T-00-00 - $0.99

My Take is Yaaayyyyyy! Free part! Put it on file, save the money on the paint and try Yammer Dan's fix. If it works, GREAT! You just saved a pile of cash and you still have a trunk bottom in stock.

Because if I fixed it, painted it and got it all perfect, the next week I would drop the bike and need a new bottom for the trunk. You know, Murphy?

PS, now that we know someone who has a special touch with Mother Yamaha could you do me a favor? Call her back and gently inquire about the possibility of an all new V-4 Venture:big-grin-emoticon:

PS - PS,, THANK YOU Mother Yamaha for taking such good care of our friend!!:thumbsup:

PS - PS - PS,, could you please pass that same phone number on to me.. I would really like to call Mother Yamaha and inquire about the second gear in my 83 with 300k miles on it that lost its second gear back at 40k - it has no stamp mark on it indicating that it was updated under warranty, I have been short shifting all this time. I would really like to hear their response..

I don't know about now, but I worked at Yamaha dealer from 91-94, and at that time Yamaha was still repairing second gear on Venture's in their records that hadn't had it done. Back in those days Yamaha would make alot of goodwill repairs and approve them on dealer requests so the customer didn't have to hassle with it and made the dealer look like a hero to boot.
