uncledj Posted October 7, 2013 #1 Posted October 7, 2013 I came across this on Columbus, OH Craigslist. Possible TRADE or SALE - RUSSIAN ASULT VEHICLE (SW Franklin Co.) http://images.craigslist.org/00b0b_fF89bbDMCLn_600x450.jpg http://images.craigslist.org/00b0b_fF89bbDMCLn_50x50c.jpghttp://images.craigslist.org/00u0u_2XAxckeYXBl_50x50c.jpghttp://images.craigslist.org/00f0f_7DR4XbEzEgb_50x50c.jpghttp://images.craigslist.org/00B0B_hN4hp6GrrYh_50x50c.jpghttp://images.craigslist.org/00D0D_edjGx9A68Dx_50x50c.jpghttp://images.craigslist.org/00u0u_eEoSyRPdVnH_50x50c.jpg For Sale is my Russian Made Assault Vehicle. It has Positive Traction, 4 speed transmission with REVERSE and has street legal lights installed on it. This Motor Cycle is Street Legal. This vehicle was originally designed to be a "Fast Attack" vehicle with a bed mounted Machine Gun. After the War, they were then utilized within the factory to carry parts throughout the shop. It is VERY VERY RARE and there are only two others in the US that I have knowledge of. However, parts for my Motor Cycle are readily available through many out lets. I would like to sell or trade my motor cycle. My asking price is Best Offer. I also would consider trades for a Large Cruiser, Triumph Bonnie, 4 X 4 vehicle or I may also take things that go Bang in on Trade. Please feel free to call or text me at 614-530-3132. I have a clear Ohio Title in my possession and it has current Ohio License Plates on it. Thank you.
bongobobny Posted October 7, 2013 #2 Posted October 7, 2013 Hmmm, looks like pancake twin (possibly BMW?) and shaft drive. Kinda interesting...
djh3 Posted October 7, 2013 #3 Posted October 7, 2013 I was thinking it was a Ural or whatever they call them. They make side hack jobs and are shaft drive so I dont see this being out of bounds for them.
SilvrT Posted October 7, 2013 #4 Posted October 7, 2013 Three things kinda "jumped out" at me. Very, very rare - only two others in the US Parts are readily available. Best offer hmmmmmmmmm....... ?????
Guest tx2sturgis Posted October 7, 2013 #5 Posted October 7, 2013 As a Ural owner...I do see lots of similarities and would not be surprised if it came out of the same factory in Irbit....or maybe its a Dnepr. Thanks for sharing this...I will cross post it over on Soviet Steeds.
Evan Posted October 7, 2013 #6 Posted October 7, 2013 Great post. I would love to have a collection of bikes and add this to my collection.
MikeWa Posted October 7, 2013 #7 Posted October 7, 2013 Say. Is that a Subaru engine? Is this thing made in Taiwan? Where is the machine gun? What caliber? Mike
Guest tx2sturgis Posted October 8, 2013 #8 Posted October 8, 2013 From the responses I got from the other board, it seems to be a hand-built Dnepr. One of the members over there is now in contact with the owner of the vehicle, and is haggling price already. $3500 seems to be the negotiated price. Interesting bike for sure. uncledj, I doubt we will see a 'finders fee'...
Guest tx2sturgis Posted October 8, 2013 #9 Posted October 8, 2013 Update: Now another member has made a more solid ID on the vehicle. Quoting a guy in the UK: 'Rubbish. It's a factory model Dnepr 300 trike. Made as general load hauler . Never used by the military but used in the civvy world in agriculture and as a delivery vehicle' It seems the current owner has embellished the story a bit. Either way, it reminds me of the era of the Harley-Davidson Servicar and the Cushman Truckster.
Guest tx2sturgis Posted October 8, 2013 #10 Posted October 8, 2013 Uncledj, the interested buyer over on the Soviet Steed board is looking for someone, anyone, to go look at the bike...he is about 7 hours away. Any chance that you or someone you know might be in the area where it is located?

PGunn Posted October 8, 2013 #12 Posted October 8, 2013 My first though was turn the back into a popup tent camper....
Guest tx2sturgis Posted October 8, 2013 #13 Posted October 8, 2013 I am in Columbus, willing to do what I can if needed. Thanks! Here is the number for the seller: 614-530-3132 I get the idea he is a good guy from the emails I have seen posted. If you can arrange a simple look-see...the potential buyer would then feel much more at ease driving 7 hours to pick it up. I will owe you one!
uncledj Posted October 8, 2013 Author #14 Posted October 8, 2013 Just got home I live about an hour North of Columbus, but work down that-a-way most days. I'd be happy to take a look if ya still need me to. Feel free to call or pm me. My number is listed in my member info.

Thanks, I think we have a volunteer a bit closer...I shared info between the buyer and Venture83_98, so if that works out, it will save you some gas. Pretty cool that you found this item, since it was mostly unknown over on the SovietSteeds board. I will enjoy hearing about the new owner's experience with it if the sale goes thru. Thanks again!
venture83_98 Posted October 9, 2013 #17 Posted October 9, 2013 Calling tonight actually. Depending where in town he is I can probably check it out after work tomorrow afternoon. I will update later....
uncledj Posted October 11, 2013 Author #18 Posted October 11, 2013 I'll be working in Reynoldsburg today, which is on the East side of town. If that's any closer to the seller, I'd be willing to stop by. Gimme a call if you'd like me to go.
venture83_98 Posted October 11, 2013 #19 Posted October 11, 2013 I called him Wednesday night. Haven't heard back. If you can get a hold of him then go ahead. I am going to try to reach him this morning.

If that's any closer to the seller, I'd be willing to stop by. Gimme a call if you'd like me to go. I'm not sure if this will work out but please give it a try. I'm trying to help a member on the other board. He is wondering what happened.
uncledj Posted October 11, 2013 Author #21 Posted October 11, 2013 Coincidence. I don't usually have my 'puter with me at work, but I've been having some issues with it lately, so I'm gonna drop it off to a tech savvy buddy after work. Anyhoo, I figgered that I'd try it before going on the roof. (Verizon mi-fy) and saw your post. I called the number you posted and got a voicemail. I left a message with my name and # and explained that I'd like to check out the "assault vehicle". That's where it's at for now. If he doesn't call back, I'll try again at the end of the workday,...before heading back home. That's about the best I can do for now. I'll let ya know what happens. I may have to use my phone to post though....not sure if I'll have to leave the 'puter with my friend or not. Never posted with my phone before......hmmmm.....
uncledj Posted October 11, 2013 Author #22 Posted October 11, 2013 I spoke with the seller, and will try to stop by and take a look later today. He's as confused as I as to who the actual interested party is. LOL:cool10:
uncledj Posted October 12, 2013 Author #23 Posted October 12, 2013 I stopped by and checked it out. From what I can see it is as described. Started on the first kick, and he was going to let me take it for a spin, but I didn't feel comfortable doing that, since I was not the prospective buyer. The rubber parts were cracked with age, but not enough to be a major problem yet. Oil seepage here and there, but no major leaks evident. No bad sounds coming from the engine other than maybe some valve train noise, which I'd expect from something that old. Only 306 miles on it. Seller weighs over 200 pounds and says he can get it up to 58 mph. It's licensed and street legal. There's some disagreement about the origins of this machine, but the seller was adamant about it, and gave a pretty detailed, and believable history. He says it's one of only three brought into the US, and, from the serial number, believes it was built in 1946. Seemed to me to be a good buy at $3500, but what do I know. In any case, I spoke to the prospective buyer (Vince) and told him what I could about it, so it's up to him from there. Whether he buys it or not, I enjoyed checking it out, and had a nice (and educational) conversation with the seller. In the interest of full disclosure, I also contacted my brother in law, who mostly collects and restores old Mack Trucks, but has an interest in things like this, and told him that if the sale didn't work out, he should check it out. Never did get a chance to drop my computer off. Still dealing with startup issues. My work here is done.
Guest tx2sturgis Posted October 12, 2013 #24 Posted October 12, 2013 I stopped by and checked it out. From what I can see it is as described. My work here is done. Thanks so much for doing this...I'm having WiFi issues myself in this motel tonight but as soon as I can get on SS I will...
venture83_98 Posted October 12, 2013 #25 Posted October 12, 2013 Glad you got a hold of him. I never heard from him. I wonder if he thought we were the same person, since we were both looking at it for someone else??? Anyway, glad it got accomplished. Kurt
