My charging system is not working, I mentioned to the dealer that I may want to get the high output from Buckeye performance. The tech said I will need a high output reg/Rectifier. I don't think I do but I am not sure. Please advise.

You do not have to get a HO RR to go with the HO Stator.

BUT

you will only have the max power available that the stock RR can pass. In other words you will get little to no benefit from the HO stator. But it will function safely.

The point Jeff was making was a stock OEM r/r will work fine with the HO stator. But will not show any increase over stock output.

I went with a Buckeye Performance

Stator which is only an increase of less than 20% or so. By changing to a Shindengen Mosfet R/R i was able to take advantage of that 20% increase. It all works together. You limit one you limit both.

20% ain't much. You need to use all you can get on these old bikes.

IM really happy with the combination now. Rock steady charge rate with the load i put on it. Been a few years with no problems now.

the stator is the problem, the other problem is that I bought a extended warranty but Yamaha has no record of it. I found this out when the dealer called me and told me my warranty expired in Nov 12. The dealership I bought my bike from has gone under. If I can find the paper's then I can prove that I have the extended warranty. :(

Jim,

I may be wrong on this, but I have never heard of a legitimate "Extended Warranty" on any of the RSV or RSTD's. Yamaha offered a 5 year unlimited mileage warranty that was transferable. Unless your dealer specifically was going to cover all expenses after the factory 5 year warranty, I think someone may have blown some smoke on that statement. Again let me say that I could be wrong, but I have never seen/heard anyone getting a legit extended warranty....:2cents:

Jay,

I got mine from (Earl) SkyDoc when I got my HO Stator From Rick.

I asked him 2 years ago what the part number was but he never

responded back to me.

IT REALLY MAKES A DIFFERANCE !

Thanks for all the replies, The Stator was the problem, I still wont not got my bike back before monday, the dealer called me on Wednesday and said that they messed up a gasket and would not have it until Monday. Monday being a holiday, I don't know when i will get my bike back.

The dealer is generally very good at getting my bike repaired and returned ASAP. I take my bike to a dealer 30 miles from Lexington even though there is a Dealer 5 miles from my house.

Good service is the reason why.:cool10:

Thats cool, I never knew that Yamaha would extend the warranty on the bike. Learn something new everyday

:thumbsup2:

It is cool. I see where if you were to buy a used bike out of the 5 year warantee from a dealer you can apply for a YES contract. The kicker would be how much would they charge for the policy??? It might be worth it to get a 1 year just because.....
