aedlee Posted October 2, 2013 #1 Posted October 2, 2013 I am having troubles with my venture I believe it is a connection issue but not sure where to check looking for clues. When idling the tach drops out, and the front two cylinders are not firing. As the rpm's come up they will, but as soon as it comes back down they stop. know there is a big issue with tci as it is located under the battery. I have cleaned the post, and connections there. Just need to know where else to go to. Any ideas would be great. Need to ride, but on full power.
Trader Posted October 2, 2013 #2 Posted October 2, 2013 It sounds like you are having issues with your TCI. It could be wet. Try removing it and drying it out. You have to remove the TCI, open it up, and dry it in the oven at 180* for about 1/2 hour. When you replace it, move it on top of the air box to avoid similar issues in the future. Wouldn't hurt to use contact cleaner and dielectric grease on the connectors while you are at it. Mine was very easy....but I had the faring off at the time...it just "flipped over". you may have to clip the mounting tabs off so the false tank cover will fit back on properly
mbrood Posted October 4, 2013 #3 Posted October 4, 2013 You want to clean and lube the connection from the pickup coils as well as the TCI connections. You might also service the front coil connections as well. Testing from the ignition fuse to the iside of each spark plug holder should show about 23k Ohms... 13k for the coil and 10k for the plug... anything more speaks of corrosion in the plug holder ore either end of the high voltage cable. Clean the internals of the plug holder and/or clip 1/8th " off the "green" end of the high voltage wire as needed.
