dave_wells Posted October 2, 2013 #1 Posted October 2, 2013 2nd gen Venture Today I noticed the pet cock leaking in the reserved setting Had gas on all day it was fine Switched to reserve and noticed a couple of drips then it stopped Is this a rebuild able piece or just replace it Thanks
rable Posted October 2, 2013 #2 Posted October 2, 2013 I have a 2000 m venture like yours mine leaked when I turned it off or leaked a few drops when I went to reserve. I tightened the two Philips heads on the petcock and it stoped
Shadow walker Posted October 2, 2013 #3 Posted October 2, 2013 The replacement rubber to rebuild the petcock is under 10 bucks at the dealer. I found out when I turned off the gas to remove the tank and had fuel everywhere. Took a couple of minutes to do after draining the tank.
Wade 2000 Posted October 2, 2013 #4 Posted October 2, 2013 Hi Dave, I had my petcock rebuilt when I was out west three years ago. They just put in new o-rings and down the road I went. No problems since. Check your carb intakes also for fuel residue. My float valve seats needed replaced around the same time.
Hucklecatt Posted October 2, 2013 #6 Posted October 2, 2013 I cannot recommend the Pingel fuel tap highly enough. Other than looking just beautiful, it is easy to put on and seal up. HIGHLY recommended modification!

Sexagenarian Posted October 2, 2013 #8 Posted October 2, 2013 Had a problem on my 97RSTD petcock. The long 'normal' plastic tube had separated from its' metal housing altogether. Once I ran out of gas, the tank was dry from that tube being completely detached from the petcock, so I had no reserve. Yamaha mechanic told me that the plastic will shrink in time which is why it becomes unseated in the tank. I Ordered a new petcock for around $20 and guess what? That long tube is now a metal one. You may also want to order the rubber bushings that the mounting screws fit through. Mine were so brittle they would have been of no use on the new one.
calperin Posted October 2, 2013 #9 Posted October 2, 2013 This is what I was able to find for Ventures: http://www.bikebandit.com/pingel-fuel-valve?m=145912 It sounds nice, since I also have the same leak ...
