Can anyone give me an insight on heated grips for a 2nd gen RSV and also suzuki Volusia? My wife and I are headed out west in mid October and we will have some long days in the saddle and would like not to be hampered by cold hands. Any info, links, brands ect would be appr;eicated. Thanks

I have used the HotGrips brand for years...they work well..are a bit of a pain to install tho...it might take you a couple of hours....depending on your ability and attention to detail.

I have heard good things about the Oxford heated grips...but have never used them.

With heated grips, you dont have to use large thick gauntlet type gloves to keep your fingers warm...which helps with operating the controls.

Keep in mind that the RSV needs 1" open-end grips for the bar-end weight. And if remember correctly, you need to trim the throttle sleeve a bit to install the right hand side.

Be sure to order the heat-resistant epoxy they sell if you order the HotGrips.

I used these no problem install...remove old grips with compressed air...install as directions..glue grips on...wire switch on left side fairing..had these on vstar 4 years 2 years on venture...oxfords and others are too far INMHO ....like these as grips and wights remain as stock.

Heated grips are juice hogs. I recommend you get two pair of heated gloves. Only draw about 3 amps per pair and keep your hands much warmer than grips?

I found heated gloves are too bulky..with heated grip you can still wear late summer /fall style gloves...as for juice hogs checked voltage draw when plugged in still above recommended specs...I don't run passing lights when grips are on..headlight is HID..led rear light saves power..

I am also looking into heated grips. I have heated gloves by Tourmaster which I don't like at all. I understand they may have corrected the main problem; the wires hurt my knuckles. :((Maybe I just have boney fingers!:whistling:) Over all, I don't like the gloves as they are also very bulky too, however I love the heated jacket liner! :) I don't leave home without it now.

Thanks for bringing up this question! I'll be keeping an eye on this thread!

How is heated grips going help with your passenger's cold hands? Just a thought. I have a pair of light weigh heated gloves and the FJR has heated grips. Did a SS1000 in sub freezing weather last February and the heated grips did exactly that; kept my grip (or the palms of my hand warm. Did nothing for the other side of my hands. Stopped put on and plugged in my heated gloves and was warm and toasty. If by chance my passenger wants to warm her hands, she can plug in her heated gloves back there and her hands are warm as well. Tried having her reach around me but she cant steer worth a S#$+. I have power lets on all three my bikes but only the FJR has the heated grips and they draw 9 amps; two pair of gloves....6 amps.

It takes a VERY dedicated passenger to ride for hours with you in the cold. So...if she wants heated gloves, then by all means, get her a pair!

Along with the wiring, the heated vest or jacket liner, the hassle, and the other parts of her that will be cold, you have my blessing there.

Its a bit more realistic to set her up with some nice warm gloves, some hot-hands heated glove warmer pouches, and let her put her mits in her jacket pockets, or yours if she can reach them. Along with a heated vest or jacket liner, and insulated riding pants, she should be at least as comfy as you are.

I just find that for me, heated grips along with a heated vest work great, and you can wear any gloves, you dont have to run wires to the gloves, you dont have to have a seperate controller, and most heated gloves are just too bulky to be comfortable on the grips...in my opinion.

If heated gloves work better for someone else, then that is what they should use.

hand deflectors work well keeping the cold and rain beating on your hands. about $90.oo a pair. screw the mirror off and slide the bracket on then retighten the mirrors.
