BlueVenture87 Posted September 28, 2013 #1 Posted September 28, 2013 Hi folks, I bought a new to me GW 1500 this summer to commute on that came with some cans of cleaning goo from Honda. I'm out now and am too cheap to buy more of this Honda-brand spray cleaner. I've seen some comments on spray Pledge and am wondering what the whole deal is. Is this a joke to get the new guy to spray lemony slippery stuff all over the seat? (Armor-All was a hoot when applied to my cousins minibike seat when I was 12 ) Maybe it's good for bodywork and paint? Windshields? All of the above? Lastly, in the case of the blown up can in the saddle bag, Maybe just a trip to the store for a can of Pledge... LEMME KNOW before I resort to experimentation in the evil-mechanics lair! Best! -JK
XV1100SE Posted September 28, 2013 #2 Posted September 28, 2013 I picked up some cleaner at a Yamaha dealer and it smells like Pledge. From what I've read, you can use Pledge on body work and wind screen. Don't use it (or anything else) on the seat, handle grips, or electronics...or tires.
Drreb Posted September 28, 2013 #3 Posted September 28, 2013 No way no how would I put Lemon Pledge on my bike. I've heard you can, but I'll stick to the stuff made for motorcycle myself. Spend the extra bucks for the right stuff in my opinion.

bongobobny Posted September 28, 2013 #6 Posted September 28, 2013 Been using spray furniture polish on my windshields for years and years!! I don't use pledge, I use other brands. Cleans the bugs off and makes the windshield act like it has RainX on it...

Pegasus1300 Posted September 28, 2013 #8 Posted September 28, 2013 Used Honda spray cleaner,Yamaha Spray cleaner and wax and Pledge,both with and without lemon. The Yamaha needs to be buffed some to make it really shine.The Honda cleaner/wax used to work really great but they changed the formula a few years ago and now I like the Yamaha better.Pledge works really great lemon or not but you will get bees and wasps with the lemon.In my area the non lemon is hard to find so I stick with the Yamaha. The Pledge costs about half what the Yamaha does.but it is also a smaller can. I have never tried the Dollar Tree brand but might give that a try.

Prolly best to do as they say.Just out of curiosity do they have a recommendation?

No harm done in 17 months.

Snaggletooth Posted September 28, 2013 #14 Posted September 28, 2013 Used Plexus on both windscreen and body works for years. When the price of Plexus started getting nuts i changed to Pledge. Can't say i can see any difference between the two. Both help keep the bike cleaner and repel water about the same. No harm seen to paint, plastic or windscreen. From my Droid wherever I may happen to be at any given moment.

Have used it in my own shop on restores, always worked great - body work only!! Always stay away from shields with it, never no never use anything on the saddle that will make it slippery - this can be down right dangerous!! Puc

I use the Behold now because it's $2 a can at Dollar General, where Pledge is $4. You can use the high dollar ones from Honda and Yamaha, they are good stuff, dont get me wrong, but $2 a can for Behold and $12 for Honda isn't even a question for me. $10 in the gas tank....

I get wasps around the bike all the time during a road trip and I haven't used pledge much at all on my new scoot. That said, I have been using LEMON pledge on my scoots for many years. It does a great job especially on the W/S. Sure, it may attract wasps but no more so than all the other dead bugs on the bike do.... that's what they come for.... the smell of all those other dead critters. (that's my opinion and I'm stikkin to it, and will continue to use LEMON pledge)
