Any suggestion..leveling bike for maintenance

Looking for way to level bike for doing maintenance on bike. Have been using 2x4 under kickstand to raise a bit but it is not very stable. Not interested in adding a centerstand. Any suggestions out there?

Outside of a bike lift, my favorite solution to your issue is a front wheel wheel chock. Cycle Gear has a good one on sale for $70 and you can also use it for a front wheel mount in a trailer:

I have a lift adapter but when I do not want to jack up the bike in the air I put two 2X4s together and routed out a slot in the top one so the kickstand fits right in then I put a 20 pound weight on the left floorboard to make sure it does not fall over.

 

Probably not the safest method but for quick items like checking oil in the sight glass it is quick ,easy and of course cheap.

When I use the 2x4 method to level the bike, I always put a jack stand under the right side rear bag crash bar, no chance of it falling to the right this way.
