So what's involved? Besides the obvious 1,000 mile ride in 24hrs. I mean. How do you prove you actually rode that far in said amount of time?

Just curious because my niece is getting married in Oklahoma this Saturday. Thought about taking the bike so I could kill two birds with one stone.

Thanks,

Bill

It is easy.Go to the their site and download the info sheet.Plot your trip on Google maps.Take a pic of your starting and ending speedo mileage and date stamp the pic.The best thing is to ride for two hours at a time and get fuel with a receipt.Right down your milage and time at every stop. Dont speed either.I posted on Facebook too as a backup at every stop. You need someone to sign for you at the start and finish of your trip.Drive a few extra miles just to be on the safe side to confirm your mileage as your bike does not keep accurate distance.

As I understand it, you can use your gas receipts to prove it. A friend of mine did it and kept all his receipts. He had a cop sign off at the start and finish of his ride. The only problem was that when he checked his receipts, he had used his debit card for some and his brothers debit card for others so they had two different names on them!

He decided it didn't really matter.

This is a guy that went to SC to have a custom map made for the injection on his Aprilla, They said come back when you have a few thousand miles on it. He was back the next week because in the interim he had ridden Thursday from Atlanta to Wichita to join me at a bluegrass festival, then Saturday to Birmingham for a mc race and Sunday back to Atlanta. And all of this on a sportbike!!!

Thanks for the reply man! And thanks to Bob Myer for posting the link to the IBA in another thread I finally found. Reading through it now. Sounds reasonably simple enough. I've been down there before with this bike on her maiden voyage. Hopefully if I do take her gain, it will be a bit warmer than 17 degrees out when I leave and I won't have to run through a snowstorm for almost my entire way through MN. and IA. and the rest in a cold rain.

I almost forgot to repost that link.

It could be simple, or it can be a disaster in a heartbeat. It's best to study up on their web site. Good idea to use your own Debit cards and have two in case they turn one off on you because your traveling too fast, like they did to me.

I have had that same thing happen on a road trip. It only took 4 hours or so to "fix" it, but had it been on the overnight or if I had no cash, I would have been screwed. Take some cash, EPS systems crash, their comm goes down, you name it.

Have fun and good luck.

Notify your credit or debit card company of your plans and what states your going to go through and what days. They will monitor the card but not cut it off. Keep all your gas receipts, print off your route and send it in. Keep the number of riders to a minimum. Too many and your gas stops go from 10 minutes to a half an hour real quick. Do not make it into a bigger deal than what it needs to be. I have done both the 1000 in 24 and the 1500 in 36.

I learned the hard way to call the CC companies of all of the cards I might use on a trip to tell them that I will be stopping for gas very often, and the states and dates of my travel. I always mention that I am on a motorcycle and it has a small tank so they will se a lot of small gas transactions in quick sequence.

Yep. Good advice. I've had my card blocked after making three gas purchases in less than 24 hours. Its a hassle to get shut off on the road.

Being deaf makes it more interesting as what do they tell you to do? "Call This Number". Not always an easy task to do.

So a little more planning ahead is required to keep in motion. On a LD run planning is paramount.

Thanks for all the input guys. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like its going to happen this time around. My only bank card got shut down Tuesday after the bank noticed some suspicious transactions. Luckily it was caught right away and no harm was done. I have a CC I could use, but I'm trying to pay it off, not add to it. I also came down with sinus/head cold problems. Last thing I want to do is be all doped up and trying to make a 1,000 mile trip on my scooter tomorrow afternoon, then do it again to get home to work Monday morning. I need more time and planning to into this. I'll have plenty PTO banked to do it right next summer. Then maybe I can get some others to go with me too. Thinking a Butler modded seat is in order as well.

IIRC The ride does not have to be 1,000 out and another 1,000 back. It can be a big loop, or even an out and back as long as you properly document the turnaround.

Yup, just 1000 miles in 24 hours. I recommend you do at least 1025 to take any uncertainty out of the documentation verification.

Have fun. As long as you keep rolling, it isn't too hard.

Marshmallow butt? Lmao!

Ya, I'm not so sure my butt could take it with my seat, (bike seat that is), feeling as worn out as it seems. That Butler mod sure sounds enticing. Maybe I'll just have to have it sent out this winter.

Yes Andrew, if I'm able to get out to do it next summer, I sure would like the company. I get 3 weeks per year of PTO with this new job, so time shouldn't be a problem. They just asked me to try taking at least a week at a time if I can. We'll just have to come up with a good destination. I see the IBA has several options for running around the great lakes as well. Could be an adventure.

Well DANG, :bang head: Ken and I should have done that on his Summer Solace ride last year. We had over 1000 miles in less than 24 hours. RATS! :bawling:

Bryan you guys now you did it so you don't need any patch to prove it:thumbsup2:
