dz Posted September 22, 2013 #1 Posted September 22, 2013 Well, I rebuilt my clutch master cylinder in the spring time this year. It was fine for awhile, I haven't really rode the bike much this year and hopefully that will change soon. Went to take it around the block to keep things moving and the clutch was flat. I had to re-bleed it then it was ok. Few weeks later went to move it around a bit and the clutch was almost flat. I was able to pump it a bit but it releases right off the handle bars and does not find neutral because it's dragging a bit I suspect. I am going to replace the slave cylinder as its most likely original and probably the last link of this problem. Should I order anything else to replace while I am in there or is there a likely hood of something else being bad. Does the middle gear cover have to come off? Any insight. Thanks.
Peder_y2k Posted September 22, 2013 #2 Posted September 22, 2013 Rebuilding the slave cylinder with a 'kit' is "iffy" at best. If in doubt, buy a new slave cylinder. Middle gear cover comes off for access, and requires a new gasket, and one bottom bolt has a copper crush washer that needs replacement. As long as the slave cylinder is out, one should replace the clutch push rod seal with new. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
cabreco Posted September 22, 2013 #3 Posted September 22, 2013 I rebuilt my slave cylinder when I bought my bike because the PO had bought the rebuild kit & it was in the trunk. It was simple enough, ( I did a writeup) but I think I just got lucky. I've read here that many who rebuild wind up replacing anyway. I had nothing to lose but time. If I had to do it again I would just buy a new one since they are not that expensive anyway. The only irritation you will face it taking the damn slave cylinder out.
GeorgeS Posted September 23, 2013 #4 Posted September 23, 2013 You might also have to re-build the Master cylinder. Order OEM parts to do that job. You might as well order a new slave cylinder also.
