djh3 Posted May 2, 2018 #26 Posted May 2, 2018 So decided on a TPMS that had a separate display. Here is why. The APP thing while convenient for some, my phone aint always out in site what pressures are what, and if it did start to alarm why? Pressure under? Or over? Still a cap read type deal but I have read bunches of threads on these things now and for the most part any failure has been the battery in xmitter go bad. So display is about 1.5" square, should be easy to tuck away. Now to my problem. Last tire change on the Victory I put some 90 degree valve stems in. The dang thread for the cap is completely different from a standard schrader valve so the sensors will no go on. I tried regular valve caps when I first got them and no go, I though something wrong with them so I just went to the ones that came with valves. So now I am going to have to change the valve stems to make all this work. Shoot the T-type vavle stems I had to get were almost as much as the TPMS.
Sylvester Posted May 2, 2018 #27 Posted May 2, 2018 Over many years of riding I have developed my own way of keeping track of my tire pressures on my bike while in motion and it has worked really good for me.. I have found that I can tell by feel and sound if my tires are low, the tires go from a solid tap to soft thump when I hit highway cracks and crevices, it all comes down to paying attention to whats going on.. I also check pressures manually when touring, especially changes in altitude - like mountain riding - with my trusted tire guage.. I have also experienced my share of flats over the years.. These have always occurred so quickly (punctures that instantly relieve pressure) that no form of "monitoring" would have helped.. Even if I did have one of these new faindaingled systems I am way to old school,, I would never trust it and find myself out on the prairie checkin my tires in the morning same as always. Good one Puc, Same way I assess my tires other than a check before riding with a good gauge. I am so old school that just this morning I bought a self darkening welding mask, my first ever. Never trusted them:backinmyday: but my thirty five year old one fell off the shelf and committed suicide . And my eyes don't work like they used to so being able to see the electrode is good.
