OK, Smart Venturers, , , , this old fat boy needs a little brain picking help, , ,

 

Yesterday on the way to school, , , my heel/toe shifter felt kinda wrong, , , ,get to school and found that the bold holding the heel/toe shift bar was gone, , ,was able to get home holding my foot against the mounting position, keeping the shifter on the shaft. . .

 

OK, , ,what size bolt is it that holds the shift pedal to the mounting "hinge". :confused24:

I'm not sure what size bolt it is but I am told the fake bolts on the side covers under the drivers seat will work on this. A lot of people have problems with this.

If you have one of the new RSV's or RSTD's then there is a 'loose' spare bolt on the side cover that is there for decoration, or maybe this purpose. This bolt needs to be periodically checked, as yours is a common problem. Maybe use a little Locktite on the replacement.

It's a 6mm allen head bolt, not sure of the length but it is short, like maybe 15mm or 20mm...

You can also use one of the bolts holding the plastic on around the ignition key.

This is the same bolt as is used on the battery side cover. There are two bolts on each. One functional, the other decorative. There is also a nylon washer that goes under there.

 

Once you get the bolt and the washer, use BLUE locktite to hold it on.

 

This is a very common issue. Mine fell off while on the OK turnpike about 800 miles from home. Figured out the decorative bolt thing on an exit ramp.

You may also Look at a ACE Hardware for a replacement bolt. I looked all over Texarkana For metric bolts for another project and found the best selection @ ACE they even have them in Chrome.

hometown hardware off gilmer rd. has them in longview. I've had to get for shifter, saddle bags,front faring. got to check them often!!
