Brake Pad Posted September 19, 2013 #1 Posted September 19, 2013 this is hard for me to swallow, but I hit the ground twice in the last 3 weeks. the goldwing seat is alot higher then the ventures. I find my right leg doesn't make it over the seat all the way as I get off. Twice, yes twice, I landed on my ass, trying to get off this thing. the last time was in my garage, yesterday. I really thought the bike was coming over on me that time. so tell me, do I owe?
playboy Posted September 19, 2013 #2 Posted September 19, 2013 I really think the 5 second rule should apply here. Provided you got up that quick.
MidlifeVenture Posted September 19, 2013 #3 Posted September 19, 2013 Freebird is deserting so you could move back to a really nice Venture:confused24:
JohnT Posted September 19, 2013 #4 Posted September 19, 2013 Well, the rule is if we drop our bike. Don't remember a rule regarding our bikes throwing us to the ground.
djh3 Posted September 19, 2013 #5 Posted September 19, 2013 LOL Mike while on my trip to Canada I had a tour pack on the passenger part of the seat. On one of the days returning home (on the hurry up plan) I got off to get gas and didnt quit clear the drive backrest. Foot sort of hung up and there you are, creating a new dance to no music. But I didnt hit the ground, just looked really silly. I think your off the hook though.
CaptainJoe Posted September 19, 2013 #6 Posted September 19, 2013 (edited) Mike, It's big of you to admit to your mistake.... To post here, so that others can learn "from" your mistake, is payment enough... IMHO... Edited September 19, 2013 by CaptainJoe
Guest Posted September 19, 2013 #7 Posted September 19, 2013 So Mike...did the Venture ever toss you off of it??
SilvrT Posted September 19, 2013 #8 Posted September 19, 2013 Hold onto the grip, keep your left foot on the peg, stand up and slide your right leg over the seat and down to the ground. You can also use the passenger foot board.
motorcycle_1300 Posted September 19, 2013 #10 Posted September 19, 2013 Illogical as it sounds I find it easier to step over the seat from the high side, if that fails let all the air out of the suspension and then get on. or get a buddy to get down on his hands and knees and use him as a step stool Al
Brake Pad Posted September 19, 2013 Author #11 Posted September 19, 2013 @ 6' 4" I should be able to just step off. But after riding all day my right leg, has a small numbing problem and it becomes lazy, and just wants to drag over the seat.
JohnT Posted September 19, 2013 #12 Posted September 19, 2013 Illogical as it sounds I find it easier to step over the seat from the high side, if that fails let all the air out of the suspension and then get on. or get a buddy to get down on his hands and knees and use him as a step stool Al Illogical or not, your right. Something about the angle makes it easier. Which begs the question. How did it become "the rule" that you get on a horse or a motorcycle from the left side only? To the point I actually feel I am doing something wrong if I get on from the high side.
Flyinfool Posted September 19, 2013 #13 Posted September 19, 2013 I watched a friend of mine that is vertically challenged get on his bike from the "wrong" side. When I got home I tried it. That darn near landed me on my posterior. I am no longer real agile like I was a half century ago, so I look a little goofy getting on or off the bike.
Trader Posted September 19, 2013 #14 Posted September 19, 2013 just make sure you side stand bolt is tight (but not TOO tight!) and use the foot pegs or boards as a "stirrup" to mount the beast. (or unmount) Easier to swing you leg over the top given a little extra height. You gotta be gentle though.
friesman Posted September 20, 2013 #15 Posted September 20, 2013 Hold onto the grip, keep your left foot on the peg, stand up and slide your right leg over the seat and down to the ground. You can also use the passenger foot board. Yyeeaahhh, sure... that works well for most ppl, not for me tho ,,,...until the kickstand on the G1 breaks, and you hit the ground with the bike on top of you with a big crowd around you... I was glad I had my helmet on as I hit my head hard and the helmet had some nasty scratches on it:cool10: Brian
Yammer Dan Posted September 20, 2013 #16 Posted September 20, 2013 I mount from the rear but that dang trunk is a problem!!!!
