Sat radio antenna question

Am going to mount my satellite radio one of these days and was wondering where people are mounting the antenna. I thought I read somewhere that someone mounted their antenna inside the fairing.....does that work well? I assume if that works, you would have to mount/aim the antenna somewhat skyward?

Mine is magnetically attached on the top of the receiver.

Depends on what type of antenna. Mine is the magnetic flat kind, used for automobiles. I place mine on the R side handlebars just next to brake fluid holder. No issues normally. And that has been the set up to and from TN and Vogel this year.

I ran the antenna wire in the fairing and placed it ontop (magnetic) of the cassette deck. Worked perfectly right through the plastic.

That's cool skid...mine is a plastic holder so no can do. But nice idea for future

i ran the wires to the back of the bike and have the antenna sitting on top the the trunk rack

This leads to another question. My wife says she would like satellite radio in her truck...so, are you satisfied with your sat radio services and why or why not?

I currently have two sat radios....the mobile one for the bike and/or the boombox when I'm at the cottage, and the second one in the built-in in my Jeep. I have been able to negotiate what ends up being a 2 for 1 price break for the two radios.

What I like about the sat radio is that when I am driving or riding, I want music.....I don't want to listen to chatter....get enough of that at work......I want music. With the sat radio, I can chose by station to listen to a specific type of music.....I tend to listen to 60's, 70's, some 80's and the comedy channel.......there is lots more to choose from.....I like having that ability to specify when type of music to listen to.

Wife doesn't care for the sat radio, but then for her, the radio is just background noise....to each his own.

I love my Satellite radio could not imagine being without it...........but I hate trying to talk to or get anything done with Sirius customer service. I am to the point when I call in the first thing I do is insist on talking to customer retention. You can spend 45 minutes on the phone just trying to get a 3 minute deal taken care of. I also always shut my off (close the account) at the end of the year and have the balance put on my wife's car then after a couple of months I get a please come back for six months for $25 with free activation coupon.

On my Vulcan the antenna sits on top of the brake master, on the Venture I found a flat bracket that had been yellow zinc plate, screwed it to one of the screws that hold the inner windshield trim. Neither have ever moved My Sirius is one of the deals you snap into a cradle and it makes all the connections when done so, I pop it out of my Magnum, and onto whichever bike i'm riding.

For the most part yes! My only complaint is dropping out in some areas but now I'm used to it.

 

For best reception you want your antenna as high as possible. On my 1st gen I made up a small metal bracket and glued it to the top center of my windshield. I ran the cable along the edge of the windshield and held it in place by using plastic door edge molding around the edge of the shield. I had less drop out after doing that...

I just put the magnetic antenna on top of the brake master cylinder. The screw that is under it provides enough ferrous material to hold it in place without issue.

I built a bracket that's attached to the GPS mount. Sat antenna is glued to the top of the bracket. Wire runs inside the fairing and over to the other side where the radio is. Had the same setup on my Wing. On the venture, you can see where I mounted it in the pic.

Hubby and I have been sat radio customers forever. We currently have built in XM in both of our primary vehicles and a portable Sirius in my F350 which is old enough ['07] that built in sat radios were not an option back then. I transfer the sat radio from the truck over to the bike whenever I'm going to be on the road for any length of time. Biggest complaint I have is that they insist on charging extra on XM for certain channels that were originally Sirius only even though they are the same company now. Second complaint is their "internet option", allowing you to stream MOST of their channels does not include those of the package we pay extra for. Hubby loves the music channels as he is a big time 50's/60's R&R fan and has one h**l of a time finding any am/fm station that plays that kind of music. He used to get thoroughly pissed when we traveled as he had to keep looking for one. With the sat radios, you can name just about any kind of music and find it on there. They also cover most sports, weather/traffic for most major metroplexes , several comedy channels , talk radio, and one of my favs, the old time radio show channel.

I have the portable Sirius satellite reciever with the built in antenna and multiple docking stations similar to the picture attached. I can move it from bike to car, then even carry it and use it with a pair of ear buds. Its got a great screen and very easy to navigate while riding, records like my dvr at home if there is a talk show i don't want to miss, and can set alerts to my favorite songs.
