Condor Posted February 24, 2008 #1 Posted February 24, 2008 Does your bike have a sweet spot when riding long distances? The '83 just naturally runs perfect at 75mph. Edit: And.... oh yeah... Get's between 38-42mpg Gerald.
FROG MAN Posted February 24, 2008 #2 Posted February 24, 2008 My 84 likes 75 but the real sweet spot gets only 28mpg.:rotf:
dfitzbiz Posted February 24, 2008 #3 Posted February 24, 2008 on my '99 RSV less the speedo error of about 8% = 78 MPH. The old gal will run all day at that and get 41 mpg. Made a couple of quick trips crossing Iowa and South Dakota. I love this scooter.
sarges46 Posted February 24, 2008 #4 Posted February 24, 2008 My 89 loved it just over 4000 rpm.....purred like a kitten at that range...but also got thirsty! My 05....just plaiin purrs along as long as I dont lug it!
fixit3546 Posted February 24, 2008 #5 Posted February 24, 2008 Yep, 75 - 80 Mph. All day long............
FJR Rider Posted February 24, 2008 #6 Posted February 24, 2008 Between 70 and 75 indicated on the RSV...I won't mention where on the FJR, police departments are monitoring the web these days! Curt
Thom Posted February 24, 2008 #8 Posted February 24, 2008 63 mph and 36mpg need to rebuild carbs but at 63 it just purrs
SilvrT Posted February 24, 2008 #9 Posted February 24, 2008 Last summer I took a trip out to Saskatchewan... she purred along across the flats of Alberta & Sask with cruise on @ 140 km/h which is around 86mph... dunno what it did for gas mileage but overall trip came out over 40mpg
86er Posted February 24, 2008 #10 Posted February 24, 2008 My 84 likes 75 but the real sweet spot gets only 28mpg.:rotf: If Foggie's is like mine, that sweet spot that gets 28 is 90mph! >>>> It just settles right down and is almost non-effected by cross winds and turbulence! But you do pay the price in fuel!
jneed53 Posted February 25, 2008 #11 Posted February 25, 2008 80-85 after taking 5% speedo error into account on the 2000 RSV, but mileage suffers. Unfortunatly, I think it would be difficult to convince the law unless I let them take it for a spin.
E-Fishin-C Posted February 25, 2008 #12 Posted February 25, 2008 As long as there is no one in front of me the speed is just fine
GeorgeS Posted February 25, 2008 #13 Posted February 25, 2008 Does your bike have a sweet spot when riding long distances? The '83 just naturally runs perfect at 75mph. Edit: And.... oh yeah... Get's between 38-42mpg Gerald. Thats right Jack, and its even better with a 50 Knot Cross Wind !!!!!
spear Posted February 25, 2008 #14 Posted February 25, 2008 110km/hr (indicated) - about 70mph. That's where my Samson pipes start to talk to each other and you get the 'beats' coming in. You know - like when you have 2 identical engine sitting side by side idling at the same speed? LOVE IT!
Condor Posted February 25, 2008 Author #15 Posted February 25, 2008 Thats right Jack, and its even better with a 50 Knot Cross Wind !!!!! Hey George, that was exciting huh?? We'da pro'bly got 80mpg if it had been at our backs.... And I don't think we ever did hit 75mph that day...but I bet that wind did... Whew!!
PITBULL Posted February 25, 2008 #16 Posted February 25, 2008 my '83 seemed to like the low to mid 70's and would pull about 42-44 mpg. Im riding a 1700cc Roadstar now and it purrs along at 75-85 mph nice and comfy and pulls around 40-42 mpg. But with 1700 cc i dont wanna hammer it too hard cuz ya KNOW it will suck the fuel!
CrazyHorse Posted February 25, 2008 #17 Posted February 25, 2008 55 mph & 48 mpg:thumbsup2: So with the error in the speedo you really doing about 48mph thats how your getting 48mpg.
Silver Bullet Posted February 25, 2008 #18 Posted February 25, 2008 at about 3200 on my tach, she runs real fine:bighug:
Eck Posted February 25, 2008 #19 Posted February 25, 2008 Well Im not sure if it is the bike (or me) that has the sweet spot, but when its moving anywhere between 1mph and 70mph, I think we both become so deeply attached we enjoy the ride Cruiseing when the odometer is set on 70mph (running actually 65), mine runs it's best and smoothest..
Rich99 Posted February 25, 2008 #20 Posted February 25, 2008 Keep my RSV between 65 and 70 and pull 40+ mpg. At 85, I get around 31-32. If I find the right gas station like I did up in Susanville and take it nice and easy, I get 50 to 55 mpg. That's a difference of 24 mpg, no wonder I like going slower now a days, don't have the :mo money:I use to have to make billions of dollars profit for the oil companies.
MasterGuns Posted February 25, 2008 #21 Posted February 25, 2008 Next time I'm out, I'll slow down so I can answer this thread.
dynodon Posted February 25, 2008 #22 Posted February 25, 2008 About 70 my '86 VR really starts to talk to me and at 75 it purrs like a BIG kitten. Super Sweet. Stays that way past 80. I don't explore those speeds a lot here in somewhat crowded Illinois, but when I can, well, it is nice. speaking hypothetically of course!
jer878 Posted February 25, 2008 #23 Posted February 25, 2008 I like 80 on the gauge but Hogs I ride with have a hard time keepin' up
RoadKill Posted February 26, 2008 #24 Posted February 26, 2008 GPS speed of 67 - 70. 40mpg 1 up, 38 2 up. Nice smooth relaxing ride. On the Interstate you can just settle in and not have to change lanes alot.
Guest tessa c2 Posted February 26, 2008 #25 Posted February 26, 2008 my 86 just runs nice with the tac just under the 4000 rpm nad i get about 40mpg
