mralex714 Posted September 12, 2013 #1 Posted September 12, 2013 Behind the back cylinders is mounted a small cylinder shaped object with a 2 wire connector, I believe its called a condenser. I looked on the 89 I have and it doesn't have one. Does anyone know what this thing does? It looks like this ebay item. http://www.ebay.com/itm/86-YAMAHA-XVZ13-XVZ1300-VENTURE-ELECTRICAL-COMPONENT-38-/330967048723?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4d0f2c6213&vxp=mtr
MiCarl Posted September 12, 2013 #2 Posted September 12, 2013 1NL-81965-01-00 CONDENSER, SMOOTHING It's in the Audio 1 fiche. My guess is it was part of power supply noise reduction for the audio system. It was not used in 89 but turned back up in the 2nd gen.

The schematics that I posted are wrong as far as this part is concerned. I showed it on the 86-93 1st gens. The parts fiche only shows it in 86 & 87 though as Micarl stated. Gary
Squidley Posted September 12, 2013 #4 Posted September 12, 2013 I have one on my '83, and also on my '86. Definitely a different spot to put it way back by the rear cylinders
mralex714 Posted September 12, 2013 Author #5 Posted September 12, 2013 I don't have the OEM audio system, so do I need this? Mine got melted pretty bad during the fire.
frankd Posted September 12, 2013 #6 Posted September 12, 2013 No, without an audio system, you have absolutely no need for it.
MiCarl Posted September 12, 2013 #7 Posted September 12, 2013 If you've got any audio system you may need a noise filter on the power supply. Won't hurt anything to try without. If you have noise you can buy something at the car audio shop for a fraction of the Yamaha price, and it'll probably work better too.
mralex714 Posted September 14, 2013 Author #8 Posted September 14, 2013 No, without an audio system, you have absolutely no need for it. I have an after market Pioneer head unit. I did try it and didn't get any noise.

dingy Posted October 2, 2013 #10 Posted October 2, 2013 Should there be 12v on it with the key off? Because there is on mine. Per the schematics there would be power on it constantly. A condenser (capacitor) will not pass DC current through. So there should be no drain on the battery. Gary
