Carb HELP Please.

Short history-- bought a 1996 RSTC that had been stored for ten plus years

Did all the things to make it road worthy (or so I thought)i.e. all fliud changes, new tires etc.

Pulled 28 mm carbs apart and cleaned everything. Synced carbs after I fired it off. Ran fine for a few rides. Now it is getting lazy, running rich and fouled the new plugs. After reading info on the site that relates to carbs I think the diaphrams have gone bad due sitting for so long before putting back in service. I understand that the 28 mm carbs are less desirable that 32mm carbs and before I invest any more $$ in the set I have I would like to consider changeing to the 32 mmcarbs. So my question is does anyone have the carbs and info I neeed to do the conversion that they are willing to part with or can you guys tell me what year and bike I need to look at that will have the right carbs for the conversion. Any information will be greatley appreicated. At a later date I will be doing the V-max gear and possibley cam change.

Keep in mind that I am new to the Yamaha world but I am not scared to tackle anything mechanical (with your help of course). Luv the site and look forward to your response.

Diaphragm leaks make it go lean. But they're easy enough to inspect.

 

If you're rich it almost has to be the floats or float valves.

a set of 32mm can be got from e-bay store from $300 to $400, plus a set of intake mounts and a set of adapters to bolt the larger bases on to the smaller opening on 28mm heads around $60. I have several sets of 28mm and can probilly help you out if you need any parts. I also posted a video on this site of how to check the float levels on the 28mms, stock they are set around 8mm but I set mine around 9mm. let me know if I can help, don.

Well I have set the float levels in my carbs and Sweetie (bikes new nick name) is running great, so for now I just want to ride some. I am looking for a drivers back rest and lugage rack to go behind the sissy bar/back rest. If any one has these items they are willing to part with or can recomend the best options that will fit my bike I would appreicate feedback. I also want to convert to a led tail light assy so info for one of those would be helpful also. Hope everyone is keeping the sunny side up.

Hi there David.

 

Did this to my 1998 Royal Star Tour Classic II and can tell you that the bike is fast to say the least. A completely different bike. The bike has the following upgrades:

 

V-Max Cams and stiffer springs.

New valves (they were bent)

Dyna Ignition Module

32mm Venture Carburators with a jet kit

R1 Calipers with a 14mm master cylinder

V-Max final drive

Clutch upgrade kit

Custom seats

Venture trunk

And lots of safety chrome

 

It will lift the front wheel if pushed hard when taking off.

Man that bike is fun - you will not regret doing this to yours

put a couple of 10# weights in the back of your saddlebags and it'll really do a wheelie!!LOL!!
