JerryK Posted September 9, 2013 #1 Posted September 9, 2013 I knew I needed a new rear rotor and had it a few weeks. I was starting to get a weird pulse in the brake and some scrapping noise so it's time to put it on. I get the new rotor on and new pads and the pedal still felt a little strange. I rode it about 150 miles riding normal then it started grabbing some and as I would slow I was getting some brake drag too! I took it back apart [only further] and found the needle bearing was fine but the roller bearing which is on the right was scrap. It only had 5 bearings left....the others were chewed up and gone. New bearing and it's fine now......114,000 miles so I guess I should do them all to be safe.
RedRider Posted September 9, 2013 #2 Posted September 9, 2013 Mine went out at about 90,000 miles. I think they are supposed to be replaced at 50k or so. Replaced the front ones at the same time just to be safe. They will be changed out every 50k miles from here on out. RR
Guest Posted September 9, 2013 #3 Posted September 9, 2013 My rear bearings went out at 25k. Glad it was under warranty. Since then I have greased my bearings every tire change. I know they are sealed but you can use a small grease gun with a needle injector. Push the needle under the seal and feel where it drops between the bearings and shoot some Honda moly 60 in there. Do it in several spots and your bearings should last for a while. Just replaced all the bearings since I went with chrome wheels. Yep, Moly 60 in there too.
10spd Posted September 9, 2013 #4 Posted September 9, 2013 I have wheel bearings front & rear for my 88 & will change them this winter. I have 37,000 on mine. Just a little maintenance. to prevent a possible breakdown.
