KIC Posted September 9, 2013 #1 Posted September 9, 2013 I wonder when they find the time to practice when they seem to spend all their time hiding in bushes and behind fences... https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=485637114825455
XV1100SE Posted September 9, 2013 #2 Posted September 9, 2013 always impressed when I see them do those courses
Flyinfool Posted September 9, 2013 #3 Posted September 9, 2013 I can do that much better than those cops do it. It is really hard to knock over the most cones........
KarlS Posted September 9, 2013 #4 Posted September 9, 2013 Police Competition is this coming weekend here in Flint during Bikes on the Bricks. http://bikesonthebricks.com/
kevin-vic-b.c. Posted September 9, 2013 #5 Posted September 9, 2013 The difficult thing is getting over the cringing every time the running boards hit the ground. I have not been "able" to scrape mine on the second gen yet but my instructor took it out and did get them scraping every switch back. His only reaction was.... sh*t this thing is heavy ! It is a fun experience that everyone should train doing the course. they open it up a bit for us non professional riders. I think they take the circles from 12 feet to 15 for us, and about the same for slalom.
Barrycuda Posted September 9, 2013 #6 Posted September 9, 2013 in the states, they have to go through training and courses before being allowed to patrol on the bike. Also, they have HD which sit lower to the ground than RSV. The U turns and circles are 18 feet, but start out at 26, than get shorter and shorter until they can do 18 feet. another aspect is these police bikes are not theirs so if they do get dropped or damaged, oh well.. crash bars on HD also help. that said, on our RSV it CAN be done. Ride like a Pro rider and former police officer Jerry did exactly that on my RSV and was basically laughing at me. Once I saw him do it, I became mad/embarrassed and then I started to become a bit more active in my lessons with him. Tail of the dragon return on the RSV also reminded me the RSV can do them, the rider just as to practice with PROPER technique. BTW..excellent video

kantornado Posted September 9, 2013 #9 Posted September 9, 2013 I practice all I can and the hardest thing for me is powering out of the tight circle going from a right to a left turn for the next circle or vice verse . I can do it on a HD pretty good (most times) It is difficult on the Venture because it's so top heavy. But on the other hand I don't want to drop this little piglet. I have friends in the NSP and there riding skills are top notch. They can scratch and brake crash bars/floorboards even lay um over and it's all part of training on the bike's they ride. But for the rest of us we have to pay for a BOO BOO.....

I used to believe all the way that the bike is so TOP HEAVY and that is the reason I can not do it. while it is heavier than most, it can be done. it is using proper friction zone and head turning. I learned first hand and with my own eyes as my RSV was twirling round and round (without me riding it) than I tried it and although I was not smooth and slower than the instructor, the bike did NOT go down. I make it a point of practicing and I am better but not great at U turns and turning and slow speed handling. wish to take the course again just to sharpen skills. this time with a tad more confidence.
