The Pacific North West all got this storm hit and I never thought about those antenna riding to and from work today.

If anyone speaks to He who is not to be spoken of tell him I am glad HE has a great storey to tell.

There was to be no discussion on why he left.

From articles the rider :

60 years old (another story says 59)

"He took his helmet off and his hair was singed," adding the inside of the helmet showed obvious signs of being hit by lightning.

This link has a picture showing bike and rider http://www.kptv.com/story/23352247/ride-the-lightning-man-on-motorcycle-hit-by-lightning-bolt-on-i-5

The man from Tenino, WA has not been identified

See pics of bike - Honda FB6 I believe - http://www.katu.com/news/local/Motorcyclist-struck-by-lightning-along-I-5-in-Washington-222578571.html

I wonder if that had anything to do with Installed communications wiring in the helmet that conducted the lightning and it looks like the photos showed the possibility of the radio antenna acting as the lightning rod. For the FIRST time in the nearly 30 years of riding my Venture, I am glad I dont have ANY installed Audio / Communications on the bike or in the helmet! Not that I ride in lightning storms a lot but here is proof that ANYBODY could get caught out in a fast approaching storm!:225:

My question would be why the 'H' is he out riding in a lightening storm in the first place???

Sometimes it just happens. :confused24:

I ride my bike daily as a commuter and have been on plenty of cross country trips that I get 'stuck' riding through some nasty storms. While I do prefer to ride in the ideal conditions sometimes storms sneak up on you or sometimes there is just no place to pull off and be safe (which I am sure we all recognize and/or have seen before).

Whether any of this applies to this particular case or not, I have no idea, but I know that I do not usually look outside see an approaching storm and then decide "hey, now is a great time to go for a ride"...

Glad whoever it was is mostly okay -- sure could have been a heck of a lot worse!

Update: I read on the FB6 forums that Miles was released from the hospital this morning. He has little to no hearing in his right ear and slightly more in his left. Apparently lightening hit the antenna on the bike and travelled the entire electrical system and went through the cb/intercom cable that went to his helmet. Time will tell how badly he was hurt yesterday from the strike but the ppl who have talked to him have said he doesn't remember the strike or stopping the bike. I hope he gets well soon.
