Bantam Posted September 5, 2013 Share #1 Posted September 5, 2013 Just got a 92 VR. All fluids changed, rear brake rotor and pads changed. Ready for a ride. Man does that engine kick off alot of heat. Hot here in Denver and the heat on my legs is almost unbearable with vents open or closed. Temp gauge well in the green. Any sugestions? Flyinfool Posted September 5, 2013 Share #2 Posted September 5, 2013 When it is hot out you want the vents in the side covers closed, all other vents open. I have to check the side vents often, after a stop my knee will often bump the side vents open and the leg cooking begins. Your foot is still right above the exhaust and will still get quite warm. But those side vents really trow out some heat. On the other hand, opening those side vents when it is 20°F out will do a lot to keep you warm. syscrusher Posted September 5, 2013 Share #3 Posted September 5, 2013 I have some reflective heat shielding that I was planning to install inside the cover over the side vent but I'm actually thinking I'll split some fiberglass insulation and tape it on inside with aluminum tape. I don't ride so much when it's cold enough to actually welcome the extra heat and my vents just won't stay closed. On the knees I have the opposite problem because they won't stay open. I'm thinking a very small dab of silicone at the main pivot points will make it resist flopping shut. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Having owned 2 first gens and a 2nd gen, y'all don't know what REAL engine heat feels like ... try riding a Vic or a Harley on a scorching hot day in stop and go traffic! Seriously ... I am going to tape the side vents shut and jam the knee vents open and go for a ride. Then I will come up with a more permanent fix. Thanks. cimmer Posted September 9, 2013 Share #7 Posted September 9, 2013 What I did was to use a zip tie and cut it to fit and made an indent holder on the back side of the vents. There is a screw hole on the back side that you can use and it does a great job of holding the side vents in the position that you choose. Take off the side covers and you will see how it works.
