Huggy Posted September 4, 2013 #1 Posted September 4, 2013 OK I've done a search and just cant find the info I need! I want to do a carb sync BUT at what RPM should I be running? What kind of numbers should I see on the gauges? What would the best setting for the fuel/air mixture should I start with?
Freebird Posted September 4, 2013 #2 Posted September 4, 2013 In my opinion, you shouldn't touch the fuel/air mixture unless you have the problem gas analyzers to do it. Unless it's already been messed with and it doesn't make any difference. Most folks sync the carbs at around 1,000 RPM. Some argue that it is better to sync them at higher RPMS but according to the manual and my personal experience, around 1,000 does just fine.
cowpuc Posted September 4, 2013 #3 Posted September 4, 2013 Don hit the nail right on the head. I use a set of vacumm gauges, set me idle at a grand, sync in order by the book.. I really have never concerned myself with exactly what vacumm I am pulling (would be if one was uncontrollable) but more concerned with getting them equal.. The base carb (the one you end up tuning the other carbs to) is basically unsettable.. Again, in my opinion syncing is about "balancing" the carbs so they are pulling the same vac.. One thing I do like to do, dont know if its correct or not, is when I am done I run the bike up to 3800 just to see what the "balance" looks like in the range I usually run it.. I have in the past "tweeked" on the sync screws to get it as close to exact balance at higher R's but I dont think this is by the book, just me screwing around.. I am sure the sync order is attainable here on the site, if you cant find it let me know and I will gladly take a pic of my book and post it... Puc

Huggy Posted September 4, 2013 Author #6 Posted September 4, 2013 (edited) Thanks for the replies everyone. The RPM's you have given me is what I expected for the setup. I'm having trouble getting the tack to give me a reading. It was fine before I started to do the sync but now I have to rev up the engine to get a reading. So It is way out. It was out before now it is worse!! Well going to let it cool down then check for air leaks. The one intake boot from the air filter looks like it has lifted a bit.
