gernandcher Posted September 3, 2013 #1 Posted September 3, 2013 New Guy here, I have a 1987 venture with 32,000 miles on it. I bought it used about three years ago and have had it serviced by rebuilding the carbs and replacing all the fluids. It sat for about 4 months this winter and when I started it, gas started to pour out the air vent port on the air vent control valve and also the air vent on the charcoal canister. I checked all the tubing and they are all clear. The only thing I can come up with is a bad air vent control Valve. I am looking for some advice before I remove the fairing to get to the valve. Can anyone help me?

If you don't have service manual, attached are pages that deal with this system that shows how to check and troubleshoot it. Gary
MiCarl Posted September 3, 2013 #3 Posted September 3, 2013 I'd be willing to bet that's where the fuel ends up if there is a stuck float. Personally, I'd turn off the fuel cock, let it run until it stumbles then re-open the fuel cock. You might get lucky and break it loose.
Javenmcd Posted March 9, 2017 #4 Posted March 9, 2017 Does anyone know if this problem was ever resolved? My Venture is exhibiting the same problems originally noted here....
CaseyJ955 Posted March 9, 2017 #5 Posted March 9, 2017 Im at work until Monday but im happy to forward you the repair manual when I get home. My bike has this system and it was sold new in South Dakota, I bought it from the shop that uncrated it decades earlier. Perhaps it was intended for CA sale. If both systems are covered in the manual we should be able to convert back to 49 state compliant systems and eliminate the problematic conponents. Im all about weeding out anything that could strand me hundreds of miles from home and hopefully help javenmcd sort his issue. Thoughts on this?
Flyinfool Posted March 9, 2017 #6 Posted March 9, 2017 I did make a request to have Freebird attempt to restore the attachments to this thread.
cimmer Posted March 10, 2017 #7 Posted March 10, 2017 Service Manual for the 86-93 Ventures is available here. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?3384-First-Gen-Service-Manuals there is a link to where you can download it and then check out page 2-21 for a diagram of the CA system.. Freebird Posted March 10, 2017 #8 Posted March 10, 2017 I assume that Jeff is talking about the missing attachments that Dingy posted. Unfortunately, I am not finding those files in the backup. It is possible that he had linked to them to files he had posted elsewhere. Sorry.
