Royal MN Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 I have bleed the clutch and it worked fine for 2 weeks and then on my way into work today it went limp. I checked the reservoir and it was almost empty. I am pretty sure the slave needs to be rebuilt, and was wondering how diffucult this is and how do you get to it? Thanks
Huggy Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 You have to remove the rear chrome cover on the left side. The slave is between the front cover and rear cover. Rear cover has to be removed to get at it. Also oil will leak out when you remove the cover. Be careful there is a bolt at the bottom of the cover with a copper washer this has to replaced or reinstalled, it is a drain. Best put bike on side stand when removing and replacing the slave clutch. The slave clutch is held in with two bolts. The slave can be a bit*h to get out but it does come out! You might try a search on this as there are pictures in one of the threads on this.
Squidley Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Steve, I want to throw out worth here, dont waste your time trying to rebuild the slave cylinder. Buy a new one and have the peace of mind that the bore is perfect. I have tried to rebuild the slaves on the clutch before, with terrible results. Unless the bore is absolutely perfect (which most aren't) it will start to leak again at some point. The kit is about $25, a new one is about $60, but your time and aggravation is worth something. You'll need to take the middle gear cover off, so buy a new gasket for that. The slave will come out, but you will have to twist it around and do a bit of origami to get it to slide out. Mine wasn't terrible and I had it out in about 5 minutes. If you have any issues or questions my # is in my profile.
