Bantam Posted September 2, 2013 #1 Posted September 2, 2013 Going to be going thru the Black Hills early next week. Any suggestions for a nice tent campground with showers? Would like to stay in the center of things. Thanks, Bantam
Phoneman1981 Posted September 2, 2013 #2 Posted September 2, 2013 Hello: Although I have not camped as of yet. We prefer the Custer SD area. Nice town. Good eating. Purple Pie Place. Great riding in all directions of Custer. Lots of campgrounds around Custer.
OrlinEngh Posted September 2, 2013 #3 Posted September 2, 2013 http://www.horsethief.com/ We have stayed here a couple of times nice place and people, Orlin
Yama Mama Posted September 2, 2013 #4 Posted September 2, 2013 When we were out there we camped at Chris's campground in Spearfish, and there are showers. I hope you have a safe trip and I am really jealous. I would love to be there again. It is truly a beautiful place to see and ride. Yama Mama
bj66 Posted September 2, 2013 #5 Posted September 2, 2013 http://www.fishnfry.com/default.aspx We took the kids out to the hills about 8-10 years ago. Rented a cabin at this campground. We really liked the location, close to Deadwood. Just reading through the website, it says showers etc. Of course the cabin we rented had the showers etc. There were tents camping right beside the stream.
syscrusher Posted September 3, 2013 #6 Posted September 3, 2013 (edited) A long time ago I stayed in a tent in Custer Mountain Cabins and Campground. It was really nice, had been the site of a mica mine so lots of shiny stuff on the ground at night by the moonlight. Otherwise, you could try for one of the campgrounds in Custer State Park itself since it's off-season. Try for Sylvan Lake. Update: Sylvan lake is showing several tent openings beginning around 9/9. I have site 29 in my cart right now for 9/15 - 9/20, but I'm releasing it now. Edited September 3, 2013 by syscrusher update
Bantam Posted September 3, 2013 Author #7 Posted September 3, 2013 Thanks to all for the great advice. Is firewood available for purchase at the Sylvan Lake campground?
syscrusher Posted September 3, 2013 #8 Posted September 3, 2013 It doesn't say but there's a phone number here: http://gfp.sd.gov/state-parks/directory/custer/campgrounds/sylvan-lake/default.aspx
