mr4x4king Posted September 2, 2013 #1 Posted September 2, 2013 I am looking at buying one of these bikes and need some info. It has 34000 miles on it and is there anything to look for or ask about this bike. How long do these bikes normally run 100000 200000 miles what do you think its worth or should I say what would you pay for it http://images.craigslist.org/3Ic3M43q95s55H45q4d6ubdff4beea1151cf8.jpg http://images.craigslist.org/00s0s_5eG2dctPDqr_600x450.jpg
Phoneman1981 Posted September 2, 2013 #2 Posted September 2, 2013 Welcome to the site. You have came to the right place for knowledge and answers about Yamaha motorcycles. I own and ride a 2nd generation bike. I have little knowledge myself about the 1st generation bikes such as the one you are looking at. There are numberous owners that wil hopefully answer your questions. Keep us posted. Please consider joining our extended family. Best $12 I ever spent.
Bantam Posted September 2, 2013 #3 Posted September 2, 2013 I just found a 1992 VR in pristine condition except rear rotor which needs replacing. 12,xxx miles and paid $3800. Did a lot of searching for a '86 to '93 venture and this seemed to be about the right price for one in such good shape. One of the bikes had 94,xxx miles and looked pretty good. Don't know what the expected longevity is however so I went as low in miles as I could find.
Bantam Posted September 2, 2013 #4 Posted September 2, 2013 Actually, I think I came across the one you are looking at during my search. I remember all of the pin-striping.
Bantam Posted September 2, 2013 #5 Posted September 2, 2013 Here is one that I found in Eau Claire, WI. I was going to go look at it until I came across the one I bought. $2200. http://eauclaire.craigslist.org/mcy/3963458520.html
Phoneman1981 Posted September 2, 2013 #6 Posted September 2, 2013 I used the search tab. Typed in "Known problems with 1st Generation" Found several threads such as this one http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=57526&highlight=Problems+Generation. That might answer some questions for you. I hope it helps?
Guest bodasefus Posted September 2, 2013 #8 Posted September 2, 2013 I just bought a 91VR and just out of the shop for a brakeflush,,, including removal of the rear res. I would check out the fluid to see how clear it is... and ask when it was flushed... 400+ to have the mechanic do it...
mr4x4king Posted September 3, 2013 Author #9 Posted September 3, 2013 400 to flush brakes is crazy. That's more than what the charge for cars.
