M61A1MECH Posted August 31, 2013 #1 Posted August 31, 2013 What my handle was all about. Here ar esome photos of a typical 20 mm Vulcan Cannon, what the US Air Force call an M61 and in some configurations M61A1. Wish I had a dollar for every one I ever worked on and a nickel for every dummy round I ever cycled thru them. http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/89/Vulcan1.jpg/300px-Vulcan1.jpg&imgrefurl=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M61_Vulcan&h=226&w=300&sz=18&tbnid=FRM7VScO4BzoVM:&tbnh=90&tbnw=119&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dvulcan%2Bcannon%26tbm%3Disch%26tbo%3Du&zoom=1&q=vulcan+cannon&usg=__HhtnG516bRrWIZUahMUxvg9KBbI=&docid=T5kLv8yU-xtyqM&sa=X&ei=s2YiUuLrIYXc8wTd14GYDw&sqi=2&ved=0CD0Q9QEwAg&dur=5692#imgdii=FRM7VScO4BzoVM%3A%3Be0RzGVpg1h6FIM%3BFRM7VScO4BzoVM%3A
Barrycuda Posted August 31, 2013 #2 Posted August 31, 2013 That is cool Steve. I want one of those on the back and front of my truck!
jonesy Posted August 31, 2013 #3 Posted August 31, 2013 (edited) Back in my army days, 69-71 I was trained on the Vulcan, it was a armored personal carrier with a Vulcan mounted on it. A lot of fire power in a small package. Edited August 31, 2013 by jonesy added picture
sendaro_99 Posted August 31, 2013 #4 Posted August 31, 2013 can we mount one of those on my rsv:backinmyday:

Brake Pad Posted September 1, 2013 #7 Posted September 1, 2013 did the air force C-130 gun ship have one of those?
buddy Posted September 1, 2013 #8 Posted September 1, 2013 I don't ask:think: I seen how some mechanics work on military equipment
M61A1MECH Posted September 1, 2013 Author #9 Posted September 1, 2013 did the air force C-130 gun ship have one of those? Yes, the original versions of the AC-130H "Spectre" had two, along with a 40mm cannon and a 105 Howitzer. After 1994 the 20mm Vulcans were mostly removed, a 25mm version has replaced the two 20mm guns. see this link for info on the 130 Gunship http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockheed_AC-130
Squidley Posted September 1, 2013 #10 Posted September 1, 2013 Had one on the FF I cruised on back in the late 80's. Had a couple names the Navy liked to call them, Sea Whiz was one, others just referred to it as R2D2. Sweet piece of weaponry and loud as hell!
bongobobny Posted September 1, 2013 #11 Posted September 1, 2013 In Vietnam we used to love watching them work out on the perimeter, sure would clear out an area in a hurry. Them along with the Cobras in the air made for a spectacular light and sound show...
