XV1100SE Posted August 30, 2013 #1 Posted August 30, 2013 Had my front tire changed at the dealer yesterday and while waiting for them to run it thru the cash I was looking over a table of "parts" they they were selling.... lot of chrome for different bikes. On the table was a sign that read "make an offer". Happened to notice a chrome oil filler cap for the RSV. MSRP said $25. Took it to the counter and said "sign says make an offer....how about throwing it in with the tire change ?". He laughed.... and said "ok". My '09 is not the "S" version so the original oil fill cap was a brushed aluminum. Having the chrome version now blends in better with the chrome on the bike. Like I said... if you don't ask for a deal, you won't get one. Anyone looking for the ball milled chrome caliper covers... they had a set on the table too. I don't have any ball milled chrome so I didn't pick them up. Did the same when I bought my tank bag in Billings Montana at the Honda dealer. Told him I came all the way from Toronto just to visit them and asked for a discount. 10%. In Winnipeg at the Yamaha dealer... bought a Star coffee mug, windshield cleaner, and Yamaha cap and gave them the same line. They gave me two free dealer caps.

bill in mn Posted August 30, 2013 #4 Posted August 30, 2013 My Dad always said that to "If you don't ask you don't get, They can't read your mind." and the only thing he would pay retail for was groceries .He was tight as the bark on a tree , but I learned the value of a dollar...I think.

XV1100SE Posted August 31, 2013 Author #6 Posted August 31, 2013 Paul is a great guy to deal with.I grew up right at the end of Beaverdale road There is another Yamaha dealer in the KW area but I always use Performance Cycle for things. Great group of people. Pricing on things they sell is pretty standard but they don't gouge and they are personable. I work at the Toyota plant in Cambridge (in IT) and they are only 5 minutes away from work.
ReinyRooster Posted August 31, 2013 #7 Posted August 31, 2013 That's where I bought this RSV from. Will have to get back there and check out the bin.
Cougar Posted September 1, 2013 #8 Posted September 1, 2013 When I got my chromed cap I had to make a gasket for it , otherwise it leaks a small amount of oil around it. I went to the auto store and found a gasket with the right size hole in it and cut it down to size been working great for about 2 years now .
XV1100SE Posted September 1, 2013 Author #9 Posted September 1, 2013 My gasket from the old cap just popped out and I put it on the new one. No issues.
Cougar Posted September 1, 2013 #10 Posted September 1, 2013 Yup, did the same thing just was not thick enough for me. anyways I hope the old ring works for you ! it sure make it look purdy in that area ! :-)
