sleepy2 Posted August 30, 2013 #1 Posted August 30, 2013 going to look at tent trailer later today. Phantom is going also to give her opinion.Tent part is canvas so it is older style. They say it doesn't leak.Looks to be in good shape. Has 2 fold out areas with double beds and hard top. Any sugestions on what to look for?
XV1100SE Posted August 30, 2013 #2 Posted August 30, 2013 What brand is it? We are looking for a Lees-ure Lite for next year.
Huggy Posted August 30, 2013 #3 Posted August 30, 2013 If you are looking for a tent trailer to pull behind car my son has one for sale up in Trenton. It's in like new condition, has fridge stove and heater but no extra rooms. $900. The reason he's selling is he just bought a fifth wheel trailer.
BuckShot Posted August 30, 2013 #4 Posted August 30, 2013 Just pull and tug on canvas to make sure its not dry rotted. They do make products to seal the canvas against rain that you can use once you get it. Check all zippers for proper operation. check the screens for rips or tears. Just look it over good for any problems and if there are any...can you fix them? Sometimes to fix older mc campers you have to make parts and be a fabricator. LOL. Other than that ...tires, wheel bearing and such can be replaced. Also look to see if any seams are coming apart or need resewed.
stickhandle2 Posted August 30, 2013 #5 Posted August 30, 2013 Sleepy, If it is an older one, just the standard, check for mold smell, look for dark patches in corners, check the seams, check the screens. If possible check the poles to make sure they are all in fairly good shape. If it is a pop up and the seller has it already set up, ask them to take it down for you, make it seem like you want to know what is involved with putting it up (which of course you do). What you are looking for is how smoothly it goes down (all corners should come down evenly) and then how smoothly it goes up (again all corners should go up evenly). This little exercise will give you a fairly good indication of what shape the lift system is in. Of course if there is a fridge or stove...do they work, any electrical outlets in it....do they work.....do all the trailer lights work. Good luck. Just my 2 cents. Mike.
sleepy2 Posted August 31, 2013 Author #6 Posted August 31, 2013 Didn't buy trailer! Needed too much. Smelled really musty. Was stored outside with no cover and leaked. Everything was damp and smelled.Guy ripped back pannel when he tried to zip it up. Seen a couple people on site that had one like this trailer.Phantom said she wasn't interested when she seen it but let me look it over anyway. Thought it over and we decided to not buy it. Later thought I should have bought it and scrapped tent to use as cargo trailer instead. O-well.
