IronMike Posted August 29, 2013 #1 Posted August 29, 2013 Yesterday I posted from this note about The Back of the Dragon in Virginia. And how primo a road that is. And I lead on I was working my way down to Blood Mountain. The Suches Ga. Loop. And I was like hinting for some ride info. Like when you all go to Vogel, I mean that loop is right there you ride it right? So I came down 60 went up 180 and 19? And I'm in a hotel waiting to do the rest in the am. Guy says go south on 129 and 19. But anyways. The 180 before you get to Vogel was OK road but after that is was sidewalk sissy stuff. Looks like the Gauntlet for me in the am. Any tips or tricks or places to stop for swag or eat? I'm in Blairsville Ga now. This note drives me nuts. It like does what it wants, changes weird and stuff. My original post was. Back of the Dragon Va. Anyone seen it?
DragonRider Posted August 29, 2013 #2 Posted August 29, 2013 If your using a GPS, plot a ride over to Dillard, Ga and eat at the DIllard House, then plot a ride via back roads over to Highlands, NC, Cashiers, NC, and that general area, great roads, lots of waterfalls, lots of up and down and plenty of curves. We did it at Vogel and it was great. Yesterday I posted from this note about The Back of the Dragon in Virginia. And how primo a road that is. etcswjoe Posted August 29, 2013 #3 Posted August 29, 2013 Back of the Dragon Va. Anyone seen it? Bcck of the Dragon is my home turf I really hate that they went and named it but it has brought in money for the area, there is a road that runs parallel to the 16 that goes over the mountain that is a good challange it's rt 622 Bear Creek Road or if you want some nice sweeping curves you can follow RT 42 which is the bluegrass trail.
Hazenson Posted August 29, 2013 #4 Posted August 29, 2013 hmmm Think ill moazzie on up that way and check that out, first chance I get Lets see cant do it this weekend-- going to richmond,, next weekend going over by ashville -- maybe the following weekend, so many roads and so little time!
RandyR Posted August 30, 2013 #5 Posted August 30, 2013 If you haven't been on Richard-Russell parkway, south of 180 before Brasstown Bald towards Helen, GA, you're missing a fun road. The Old Sautee Store just s of Helen on GA 17 has great sandwiches. Lots of places to eat here in Dahlonega. The Smith House is just off the square and serves a family-style, all you can eat. Great food. Take a tour of one of the Georgia gold mines or the Gold Museum while in Dahlonega. Just down the street from where a US mint was from 1838-1861.
IronMike Posted August 31, 2013 Author #6 Posted August 31, 2013 OK I did all of that area and some of it twice trying to get back to places I did not do, you know the deal. Blood mountain was seriously disappointing, I thought it was like something tough. Biker Barn was cool, nice lady owner, signed the wall spent some cash there. BUT, No so thrilled with Georgia, How many signs they have that said your speed is being monitored by detection devices, and the occasional County Sheriff sitting up in the weeds. Not that I won't go back it was cool, but not what I was told it was. So I ran UP through Smokey Mountain National Park, over to Gatlinburg, and took 32 S at the 321 32 split in Cosby, Best road ever. Got it on the go pro. Amazing road. Then went back up the Dragons Back. Got the T shirt, Decal, patch and Pin and made it home 400 miles in 6 hours, What a great last two days! http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d139/usmcxterra/20130830_120902-1_zps546627cb.jpg I ride maybe two solid months a year on adventure rides, THIS is the best road ever, uploading a go pro, if it works I'll post a link. Go 32 S here. You will end up on the Appalachian Trail, on gravel at the TN NC state line. I decided at that point to turn around and do it again! And Go Pro it! http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d139/usmcxterra/20130829_175115_zps248dcdae.jpg
Eck Posted August 31, 2013 #7 Posted August 31, 2013 I sure wish Hwy 622 (Nebo Mountain Road) was smoothe pavement. It is paved, but it is full of filled potholes and repair runs which make it a very bouncy rough ride. This road is just east of Hwy 16 (back of the dragon) and is a mountain back road that is just as curvy as the back of the dragon. If they ever paved this road to where it was smoothe, this would be a very challenging motorcycle road in Virginia. No guardrails either..

I did not think it was that bad but it has been a few years since I rode it.
