The touring lights, if your bike is equipped can vary from an inexpensive replacement to LED lights that are a modification. These LED lights are from northern tools. Item number: 127757. I went from stock touring lamps to LED over the weekend. Makes a big difference. I am not too far from you and perhaps we can coordinate a time to perhaps meet if you wish. I am NOT an RSV expert, but am learning as I go... Barry
Brake Pad Posted August 28, 2013 #3 Posted August 28, 2013 The Paint is Galaxy blue, and yes Yamaha has a color match touch up bottle, its a 4 oz, brush type bottle the Bottom color for references is Raven Black
bongobobny Posted August 29, 2013 #4 Posted August 29, 2013 Yes all RSV's come with intercoms but not the headsets or cables. Front plug in should be on your tank left of the tank bib. The rear is also on left side but since mine has been triked for a couple of years I've forgotten just where the plug is. Mirrors, go to different suppliers such as Dennis Kirk, J. C. Whitney, etc. and pick out a pair that suits you. Just remember they have to be metric thread and reverse threads on the one side. For driving lights it's personal preference, Barry's suggestion is a good one. Suppliers, Yamaha Star accessories, Kuryakyn, Show Chrome, Diamond R (one of my favorites), Fleabay, etc... PS welcome aboard!!!
dacheedah Posted August 29, 2013 #5 Posted August 29, 2013 Rear plug comes out from under back seat on kick stand side.
baylensman Posted August 31, 2013 Author #6 Posted August 31, 2013 So if not all bikes came with cables and mic's what good is the CB? On idle, my RPM seems a bit high, on my 96 there was an obviouse knurled knob that allowed adjustment of idle speed, can't seem to find anything similar on this bike. I see some articles about v-max rears. has anyone tried going the other way? (taller) gear set. I don't know about the rest of you, but my bike loaded with me and my girl friend, has more than enough UUUMMPHH at 60MPH for at least another gear if not two. As many, if not all interstates allow 75mph and don't ticket till way north of 85 in most cases, RPM is still way higher than it needs to be for cruzing with traffic. As I proved to my doubting son yesterday when we were riding that first gear is low enough that the front tire can be lifted from a rolling start of around 10 MPH. So are there any custom gear sets for transmission or rear end? I'd like to spread the gears a bit and have a little less overlap.
steamer Posted August 31, 2013 #7 Posted August 31, 2013 Idle adjustment is a small black knob on right side behind rear carb tucked up under the tank. Looks like a big Phillips head screw. If you have chrome carb covers it is at the rear of the right over.
Barrycuda Posted September 1, 2013 #8 Posted September 1, 2013 offer still stands to swing by. PM if interested.
Guest tx2sturgis Posted September 1, 2013 #9 Posted September 1, 2013 So if not all bikes came with cables and mic's what good is the CB? It's there if you want to buy the headset and use it that way, or like myself, only using it to monitor CB on ch 19 if there is a roadblock/accident/construction somewhere ahead. Factory add-on CB units can cost a big chunk of change on some other touring bikes...be happy its there. Or sell it on e-bay. On idle, my RPM seems a bit high, on my 96 there was an obviouse knurled knob that allowed adjustment of idle speed, can't seem to find anything similar on this bike. Its on the right side, under the rearward section of the tank. I see some articles about v-max rears. has anyone tried going the other way? (taller) gear set...... So are there any custom gear sets for transmission or rear end? I'd like to spread the gears a bit and have a little less overlap.Fourth and fifth are already overdrive gears. The 5-speed wide-ratio transmission is perfectly suited to the wide powerband of the V4 motor. Since many users have reported better fuel mileage when using the V-Max (shorter) gears, I can only assume that if you went with taller gears, your fuel mileage would suffer, since normal cruising would occur at speeds and RPMs that are outside the engines most efficient RPM range. Not to mention having to slip the clutch a bit more, might cause faster clutch wear, and if you ever pulled a trailer, loaded, and two-up, you might be needing to switch it back. If you short-shift the bike, you will get nearly the same results: low RPM most of the time. Most of us use nearly the full rpm range and smile all the way thru the gears! After you get used to the RPM range of these bikes, I suspect you will be happy with it the way it is.
IronMike Posted September 1, 2013 #10 Posted September 1, 2013 On the Cables, I do not think it is possible to beat the EDSETS. http://www.edsets.com/ They were slightly higher in price but I think quite a bit higher in preformance. I just took a 2000 mile trip with them and they performed flawlessly. Keep this in mind when comparing, The noise canceling technology EDSETS uses is same as Military, The noise a helicopter pilot gets is about the same as a bike going down the road at 90 MPH and at that speed, I was talking to Truck Drivers on the CB and one after another commented on how they cannot even tell I am on a bike, they heard no wind noise. And that is with a HALF helmet. They have the Thunderclap speakers, You use them with ear plugs in for best sound quality, You will not no NOT be able to turn up the volume past 15 without ear plugs in They are that loud. Besides having ear plugs in gives you Bass, and likewise if you're using the speaker system. EDSETS have two mic options, plug in wired for like in a full face helmet, Or the RCA BOOM, I have one helmet set up for the wired version and I use the RCA boom with the Half helmet. EDSETs also come with a Stereo Jack for your own ear buds, Thats what I used on my trip, You can also use the speakers, and your passenger can tap into your helmet with their own ear buds and listen to CB and music with you. They just wont be able to talk, great for some situations, ah hem. I made an adaptor for my Half helmet, So on my trip I plugged the EDSETS into the Passenger Plug, and ran the EDSET unit into my UTOPIA Bad Azz Backrest Pouch, so the ear bud and Microphine wires is all that came out of there and up to my helmet. I didn't have that large cord dangling all around. It was great! Far as I know only EDSETS has those options, AND you can use the EDSETS system to narrate your Go Pro Videos as you take them, Really cool. Whatever system you get, if you tape a high power magnet to the cord where it needs to be to stick it to the rubber part of the center of the tank, thus keeping it off the tank and scratching it. When you jump off the magnet just releases. And for minimal cost EDSETS will sell you kits for additional helmets. I was lucky my helmet had pockets for speakers and they just slipped right in complete install in less than a minute.
bongobobny Posted September 1, 2013 #11 Posted September 1, 2013 So if not all bikes came with cables and mic's what good is the CB? So Mother Yami can make more money...
The Tooch Posted September 1, 2013 #12 Posted September 1, 2013 Do we, "Ventureriders" get any kind of discount or coupon from EdSets? I'm about to order two of there kits....$298. And still have to add the exchange on the dollar! Ouch!!
Freebird Posted September 1, 2013 #13 Posted September 1, 2013 No, sorry but we do not. I highly recommend them though.
The Tooch Posted September 1, 2013 #14 Posted September 1, 2013 No, sorry but we do not. I highly recommend them though. Thanks Freebird.....after I posted the question I found an old post of your's that said we used to but not anymore. I should have done a search 1st. Thanks Don.
The Tooch Posted September 1, 2013 #15 Posted September 1, 2013 Yikes! $71.02 shipping! & again the dollar exchange. Going to have to think a little on this. Just went through the same thing ordering a lift adapter from Carbon1, no disrespect to Larry at all, he is "GREAT" but the shipping costs are getting stupid! Used to be a good way to save money was on the Internet for us, could get things a little cheaper depending on where the dollar is. Right now the dollar is at that point you have to shop careful to be sure your really saving anything. But shipping...... Even shipping just regular US postal the cost are getting to the point it eats up any savings and ends up costing you more.

I understand the feelings...we all hate to spend money it seems. But after spending $10,000, $15,000, or $20,000 on the bike you want, whats a couple of hundred to get it set up the way YOU want it? I've spent $70 on dinner for two, and that meal is gone in a few hours! And as we all know, transportation costs have gone way up in the last few years. That headset will last the life of the bike it seems to me. Open up that wallet, let the moths out, gripe a bit...then enjoy the results.
baylensman Posted September 6, 2013 Author #17 Posted September 6, 2013 I do use the whole rpm band in third gear. My bike reaches most speed limits in 2nd gear and shatters them in 3rd. 4th and 5th are anticlimatic.
