EXECTIVE Posted August 28, 2013 #1 Posted August 28, 2013 hi everyone just bought a 2000 royal star picking it up this weekend i ride mostly 2 up my questian is what should the air presure be in the front and back shocks...also whats the best tire presure for the front and rear tires
M61A1MECH Posted August 28, 2013 #2 Posted August 28, 2013 Air pressure for the front forks and rear shock are a matter of personal preference. The factory recommends 0 psi in both. The max pressure for the front forks 7 psi and they need to be exactly the same, best way to fill them is with a zero loss hand pump, DO NOT USE ANY TYPE OF AIR COMPRESSOR. The max pressure for the rear is 57 psi, same here use a hand operated zero loss pump. These can be purchased at your local dealer. Tire pressure is best matched to the manufacturer's recommendations, Yamaha publishes recommended pressures for the stock tires, if different tires are installed the factory pressures may not be high enough. Metzler recommends something like 50 psi, Dunlop recommends 40 psi for the E-3s, I am sure Avon has a yet different pressure for their tires. If you tell us what tires you have I am sure someone will have good advice for you. Welcome to the forum.

Bert2006 Posted August 28, 2013 #6 Posted August 28, 2013 I use the following all the time wether riding alone or 2 up. Front forks - 2psi Rear shock - 40psi front tire - 36 psi rear tire - 40 psi I weight 235lbs and 2 up = 350
The Tooch Posted August 28, 2013 #8 Posted August 28, 2013 Just to be different.... Front forks - 6 PSI Rear shock - 39 PSI Front tire - 39 PSI Rear tire - 39 PSI It's all personal try out different setting within the limits and see what works for you and I will add, whatever the tires your running will make a difference. Barrycuda Posted August 28, 2013 #9 Posted August 28, 2013 I run 40/40 PSI with my RSV as recommended by others who have ridden longer than I have. I also have nitrogen in mine. I was running 36-38 front and wasn't to happy. I find better handling, cornering and stability with 40/40. Oh, I run on Avon Venom X rubber... +1 on NOT USING AIR COMPRESSOR....

I suggest investing the $20 in a Clymer's manual for your bike. On ebay or Amazon search for Yamaha Royal Star 1300 CLYMER
