JDaniel Posted August 27, 2013 #1 Posted August 27, 2013 Puddle of oil under the 99 RSV last night. Oil is dripping off the shock. Called Hagon in California. They have the shock with the heavy duty spring in stock ready to ship. Standard shock will not be in for a week or so. Leave for the Smokey Mountains on Sept. 13th. My wife and I have a combined weight of 350 lbs. (No way am I listing my wifes weight. One of the few things I have learned in 34 years of marriage.) I ride solo 70% of the time. Christina said I was borderline on needing the heavy duty shock. Need input on which shock to order. If I order the regular shock I will have to make the trip with my leaking shock. Thanks in advance for your input.
XV1100SE Posted August 27, 2013 #2 Posted August 27, 2013 Keep in mind it isn't just your combined weight but also whatever else you take with you. Consider how much you put in the trunk, saddle bags, and whether or not you pull a trailer.
JDaniel Posted August 27, 2013 Author #3 Posted August 27, 2013 We carry 30 to 40 lbs of cargo. No trailer.
RedRider Posted August 27, 2013 #4 Posted August 27, 2013 Go with the HD shock instead of riding without. RR
etcswjoe Posted August 27, 2013 #5 Posted August 27, 2013 There is the YSS shock option now also, give EPM a call and ask for Klaus. http://epmperf.com/hyperpro-motorcycle-shocks.htm
BuddyRich Posted August 27, 2013 #6 Posted August 27, 2013 Why replace a bad design with a bad design. THERE is NO reason these OEM shocks should be going bad other than poor design. Toss it and go aftermarket.
Woody Posted August 27, 2013 #7 Posted August 27, 2013 I put the HD Hagon on mine last month and it is like a different bike. my only draw back is it did raise the bike just a little. put about 750 miles on it this past week and I am pleased.
JDaniel Posted August 27, 2013 Author #8 Posted August 27, 2013 BuddyRich, I am trying to decide between the Hagon standard or heavy duty shock.
JDaniel Posted August 27, 2013 Author #9 Posted August 27, 2013 I just purchased the Hagon heavy duty shock for $469.00 Will be shipped out today.
RSTDdog Posted August 27, 2013 #10 Posted August 27, 2013 You should be fine with the heavy duty. I weigh 195 and ride an RSTD and I have the HD shock. Its a little firmer solo but I used to ride solo with 45 psi inthe OEM shock. I installed it righ tof the box did not touch the preload. There is the YSS shock option now also, give EPM a call and ask for Klaus. http://epmperf.com/hyperpro-motorcycle-shocks.htm What is the turnaround time for these now? There used to be quite a wait IIRC.
